I have recently been unable to logon to the console anymore. i get an error “unabke to logon as or connection error”
I have been right through this fouim and done all the suggestions that relate to my problem but so far, nothing has worked.
i have FTP’d my logs for you to look at and can confirm that all services are running ok except for the SQLAGENT$AVAST
I have tried to restore a copy of the database files from the day prior to the problem occuring which is the 27th Jan 07 and that didn’t make a difference either.
Edit: I checked the logs you uploaded to our ftp site, and it’s quite clear there’s some kind of communication problem with the database.
Please start the AMS Maintenance Tool, and try the following: “SQL Conn” → “Test Connection”. Does that work? If so, try the “Check DB command”. What does it say?
I have clicked the SQL Con… button and get the following error:

Clicking the Check DB button gives the error:
AMS Database is not compatible (0x0000A410)

It seems more of a DB problem and i have restored the db files to the date prvious to the 27th Jan which is when this all started. To add a bit of background, the server was rebooted on that evening and had a few patches installed as per auto updates. When the server came back up it eventually gave an event log issue of “Avast Management Server service entered the stop state” which was followed with anoth event stating “The avast Management Server service terminated with the following error: %%42000”
Hi sorry fot the confusion, i restored them from backup tapes. That is the .mdf and .ldf files just incase they were corrupt.
Yes the SQL connection is pointing to itself as it is MSDE on the same server as the AVAST is installed

DB = AVAST
Username = sa
Password =
Just wondered if you’ve had any more thoughts on this as the problem still exists and we have had no client updates for a while now which is starting to concern the business, understandably.

If i had to do a omplete re-install, what steps would you reccommend and would we be able to just restore the .mdf and .ldf files and off we go again, or is it not that straight forward?
also we don’t seem to have the media so can we download the software from the web site.
Also we are thinking of using a proper SQL database, what is the best way to go about this.

Appear problem with subject. but this no problems with SQL or MSDE. It worked, clients work, update work… But console not connect to AMS drom my workplace and from AMS server!!! When i enter correct login and pass built-in Administrator or my another login and pass, after about 10-15seconds appear message with header ‘This operation returned because the timeout period expired’ and text ‘Unable to login as or connection error’. When i enter incorrect login/pass instantly appear message with header ‘Acces denied’ and text ‘Unable to login as or connection error’. I reboot AMS, ping and other. SQL server work, but i can’t connect to AMS. What problem? Can i increase timeout to console?
I have also experienced problems with logon credentials for ADNM, on 2 occasions I have been unable to logon but found I could following a reboot of the server. Windows 2003 SBS. Very frustrating.
