ADNM Login Error

Hi Folks,

Hope someone can help me here with a strange problem. Am using the SBS2003 version of Avast!, and have no problems with it all, recently added a new machine via ADNM deployment last week. I booted up my machine recently to find the Windows security shield in the task bar, strange I thought and logged onto the server and fired up ADNM. Now here is the problem, I cannot login, no matter what I do and I assure you that I am using the correct password as stated, recently added a new machine. I have searched the forums and have run the AMS Maintenance tool, and tried to check the DB, and I get an error message stating that the AMS Database is not compatible. I have also checked the event log and have found the error “The avast! Management Server service terminated with the following error: %%42000”

Can someone please advise me on anyway to resolve my logging in problem, and why this service is not working"

Machine Details
Microsoft Windows SBS2003 with Service Pack 1
ADNM Build Jul2005 (4.6.378)

So, is the “avast! Manamgement Server” service running? (Administrative Tools → Services).

If not, can you start it? If not, there should be something loggen in the Windows Event Log (typically Antivirus category).

Thanks
Vlk

Thanks for the quick reply

Sorry, I should of mentioned that in previous post.

The service is not started, I start the service but within a few minutes it stops. In the event viewer the following error message appears when I start the service

Installer information: Cannot initialize data source, error 0x80040E4D…

Cheers

This error code means “authentication failed.”

Are you using MSDE or a full SQL server?
Can you connect to the SQL server from the AMS Mainstanance Tool? (accessible from the ADNM group in Start menu).

Thanks
Vlk

Vlk,

Currently using MSDE, and no cannot connect to the database. When I click the SQL Conn. button, it brings up the default login of user “sa”. I have tried changing these to what I know is the user name and password, and even the defaults of Administrator/admin. Every time I click test connection I get the error message

Database Connection Error : 0x0000A410 going to check database “myserver/Avast” using user xxxxx, Cannot initialise data source, error 0x0040E4D

Thanks

That’s very odd. Haven’t you recently changed encryption keys on the machine? Or maybe deleted some registry keys?

And an obvious question: is the MSSQL$AVAST service running?

Vlk,

Nothing has changed in the last 2 weeks, its the SBS 2003 server and there is only myself that runs any programs on it, and I have been away working for the last week, but something must of happened but not sure what

In answer to your MSSQL$AVAST Service is running

Hope you can rack your brains and come up with a solution

Any further resolution or suggestions to this ? - Would a complete uninstall and reinstall cure my problem ?

I’ve now tried everything that I can think of (not much I know) but need to protect my business with up-to-date virus definitions

Thank you

Hey there, I had the same problem, despite a flawless install.

When i went into the AMS maintenance tool, en checked the license he said, license invalid, I selected the license file again via this tool, and problem was solved.

Maybe you could check this also, for your problem ?

Greetings
