ADNM, SQL Server Express 2005 and Windows 2008 Server 64-bit

We have been using avast for two years now on a Windows 2000 server (which has worked very well) but now we have upgraded to Windows 2008 64-bit servers. I have perused the forum and read that avast only works, at the present time, with SQL 2005 (either standard or express) and I was wondering if anyone has experienced any issues with SQL Express 2005 (64-bit) running on a Win2008 64-bit server. Is there anything I should know before doing my install that will make it seamless and a pleasant experience.

I would also appreciate any comments regarding the ExchangeServer 2007 plug-in. Is it really necessary to have this installed if you have the managed client on the workstation which is also checking emails, does it significantly slow down the server’s performance, etc.

Thanks!

UPDATE.

I installed the ADNM first as explained in the install instructions but I cannot deploy the client software from the ADNM. I proceeded to install the NetServer client on one server (using setup_av_net.exe) but when I go to the ADNM and try to deploy the NetServer Client to the other servers nothing comes up in the “Installation package” pulldown… no NetClient or NetServerClient. Can anyone explain to me what is wrong?

I’m updating this post because I’m not getting any reply for a support ticket (#Ticket ID: ZCZ-796757) from anyone about the ADNM not showing the NetClient or NetServer in the deployment task Installation Package window. Is there anyone in support working these days or have you all gone on vacation. I’ve been waiting over a week for a reply to my emails (unless I’m being spammed out) to rectify this problem.

Hi Johanne,

I have installed the ADNM on a Windows 2008 Enterprise serveur (32bit) with the Microsoft SQL Express serveur 2005 (SP2) and I have no problem to deploy remotly the Avast Managed Client either on the server (itself) and Workstation. The ADNM is installed on the Domain Controler Server.

The only problem I have notice, until now, is that even if the Avast Server Managed Client seem to protect the server, I can not launch it manualy.

Nothing is writen in any of the Avast! Log’s files nor in Windows 2008 event. Look like I will have to start a new post with this error.

At least, the automatic planified scan seem to be working.

I have to do more test, using different set-up, because (even if it should not give any problem) I’m currently using Avast in French Language (just in case).

If you need any other information on my installation, please post in here…

Salut! Merci pour les détails de votre installation.

I’ve uninstalled the ADNM and all the managed clients and just installed the Server and Professional editions for now. Maybe Avast does not function correctly yet with 64-bit version. I also had problems with the NetServer not being accessible manually.

You say the installation packages do not show up in the ADNM…you did create the installation packages first correct?

Nope, we are saying that we can not launch the Avast! Client from the server. Johanne is having the same problem.

Actually, when I start (manually) the Avast Server NET Client, I can see the scan of the memory but the NET Client console will never come up. No error message are recorded either in Avast! or Windows LOGs. So it’s impossible to locate the source of the problem.

But, at least, I can see, from the ADNM Console, that the Server NET Client is scanning (Scheduled scan) properly.

Just NO MANUAL control over Avast (on the server).

All the Avast Windows XP NET Client (on the other PC) are working fine.

I have to do more testing before adding more information in this issue.

I suspect that our Windows 2008 Enterprise server was not properly installed. So I need to correct this before.

Have a good day.
