ADNM Win Xp Sp2 firewall documentation

i tripped up on page 22 of the documentation. see the excerpt here.

If there is a firewall running on any of the client machines (e.g., the Windows XP
SP2 firewall, which is enabled by default), some of the ADNM’s features may not
work correctly. For remote installation, File and Print Sharing must be enabled on
the firewall. Otherwise, the installer will be unable to push the installation packages
onto the clients. For more information, please refer to the section ADNM and
Local Firewalls in the Advanced Topics chapter. Fortunately, by using the Group
Policies, you can set rules centrally for the built-in Windows XP firewall.

  1. the firewall IS enabled by default, but is not an issue if you are sharing on that client.
  2. Which features may not (WILL: NOT) work? well, the PUSH feature, which basically IS ADNM! So ADNM WILL NOT work if you are running xp sp2, and not sharing printers, Period.
  3. File and print sharing do not have to be enabled, but should be added to the Exclusion list for the firewall. So in other words, you need to Exclude F/Pshare on the FW.
  4. there is NO section called Local Firewalls in Advanced chapter.
  5. no details on using GPO to fix this problem.

Please refine the doc. thanks.

Ad 2. No, ADNM is not only about deployment, it’s about management as well. And management should work even with the firewall enabled because it uses the POP method (the client connects to the server, not vice versa).

Otherwise, I agree that the doc could use more details on this. We’ll try to add this soon.

Thanks
