ADNM Won't Connect- HELP!

Two weeks ago I was able to successfully install all components of the Distributed Network Manager onto our server running Server 2003. During the install, I used the SQL Server built into the Avast client. The ADNM Console was working as was the catalog feature. We had to uninstall Avast and then attempted to reinstall which is where our problems began. Avast reinstalled perfectly, communicated with the internet and downloaded all the necessary files. The ADMN Console launched and successfully detected our server but upon entering the password ‘admin’ under the Administrator login I received the following error:

‘No Connection Could Be Made Because The Target Machine Actively Refused It. Unable to login as Administrator or connection refused.’

I went into Administrative Tools-aVast Management Server and attempted to start the service manually but received a message that the service could not be started with the following error:

‘Could not start the avast Management Server service on Local Computer. Error 42000:Oxa410.’

I have no idea what to do and really need some help resolving this issue. Thanks.

There is actually a service called “avast! Management Server” in your services panel. Check to see if that is set to automatic and started

Thank you for your reply.

It is set to ‘Automatic’ but will not start. When trying to start it manually, I get the message: ‘Could not start the avast Management Server service on Local Computer. Error 42000:Oxa410.’

When looking at the Event Viewer under Antivirus there is the following information:

Event Type: Error
Event Source: avast!
Event Catagory: Client
Event ID: 90
Date: 4/16/08
Time: 12:54:15 PM
User: N/A
Computer: Server
Description: Error 0000A410 has occurred while loading the global data storage.

Sorry, I missed that part that you had tried starting the service… Did you notice if the other avast! services were running? Also, did you change any administrator user names or templates between installations? SBS is really whacky when it comes to permissions/security settings. And when you delete one, there isn’t an undo button unfortunately! :-\

Nope, didn’t change a thing. Yes, all of the other avast services were running and seemed to be working fine with the exception of the avast Management Server. I guess I should have just ignored our Technical Director and left it installed since it was working fine before he insisted that it be uninstalled and then reinstalled under a different login. One day I will learn to just ignore him and do what I know is best. Oh well, time to call in the consultants and pay them $125 an hour to try and figure out what happened. Thanks for the advice. I’ll let you know how this turns out. Frankly, I’m very suspicious that SQL Server isn’t installed and/or configured properly but I guess we’ll find out once the consultant arrives.
