Adobe Flash for FF/Opera not detected

Why is Adobe Flash Player for browsers other than IE not detected on Win8 in Software Updater? ActiveX version is listed which is integrated in Win8 anyway, but the other one is not even detected. But i do have it installed since i’m using Firefox.

This is still happening…

Having moved over to using Avast as my antivirus, it is very annoying that Avast gets this wrong.

It also confuses the matter by reporting the latest version but STILL saying it is out of date.
Here is the screen I’ve been seeing when I ALREADY have the correct version for Firefox.

… and I have wasted valuable time researching the problem and realising I have to launch my incredibly buggy version of IE just to update a different version of Flash for a browser I never use.

On a separate but related note, I think that Avast is being a rather over the top when it throws up a big warning sign saying that the software condition on my PC is “CRITICAL”.
I convinced my wife to switch to Avast on her own laptop and as soon a she saw those ridiculous warnings, she told me to uninstall Avast straight away.

I have never found any software updater that is in any way accurate.

I tried Secunia on 2 systmes here, it was hopeless, on my son’s machine it reported several programs he has never installed including Avira antivirus, something we have never at anytime touched.

My desktop reported VLC PLayer and several apps I have never heard of and they were not installed.

Even Microsoft get it wrong, their monthly updates insist they have new drivers for my invidia card … they keep trying to install drivers from 2010!

I look for updates myself, most decent software tells you anyway, and there is an software update thread running here on this forum which is probably the best resource around.

IF Avast allowed users to add applications they actually wanted to have checked for available updates (which the free version doesn’t), then it might be an asset for some. As it is in the free version at least, it is arguably not worth having installed, and is one of the modules I removed using the “Change” options.

That may be true for the advanced users but there are people that dont keep their software up to date, specifically those that get exploited the most eg Java and Flash.

Its great for those that are average users.
