Advice for FREE Anti- Spyware, Malware...

Hi all avast user
now I´m also avast! user and im really fine with it

Now I need a advice. I want to protect my system with a FREE antispyware, malware or so, program.
???
But it will be great, to have one, that´s not working in the background of my RAM, because I wont to make my slow system (866 mhz, 125 MB, Win ME) more slower than it is.
The best would be, to start such a program whenever I want and in the other time it should be “silent” and not doing something in the background.
AND- it should not be very complete and hard to configure, because I´m not really a professional in that area - to deal with a lot of problems.
Using zone alarm, opera browser
I´ll come back next week and hope to find some advice.
Uwe

Check my signature below, Uwe. Those anti-spyware products are all free. With Spybot, I would suggest not activating the Teatimer part if you are worried about “doing something in the background.” I have all that also on my old computer that is running an AMD Duron 750 mhz cpu and W98SE … though it has 512 mb of RAM.

I hope this helps you.

Antispyware: SpyBot, SpywareBlaster and Ad-aware (the three can be installed at the same time). The first has a resident (and a scanner). The second is static (block without scanning) and the third is just on-demmand.

Antitrojan: Ewido (on-demmand).

Just do not run TeaTimer (from SpyBot) and use the free version of Ad-aware (without ad-watch running in background). SpywareBlaster does not use resources.

Unanimous:

  1. Ad-Aware
  2. Spybot Search and Destroy
  3. Spywareblaster Don’t install this until you are clean.

Good page with lot of good information about protection and preventation

Try this http://www.spywarewarrior.com/ and use

 For antitrojan, forget “Ewido”; it will NOT work on your
Win ME machine. However, A-squared “free” will, and can
be found at www.emsisoft.com/en/software/free .

Thank You all for the informations,
I will check the websites and than make a decision
