Hello ya’ll eh lol. Advice NEEDED on reinstalling my OS and other programs. After using DBan Boot n Nuke with a Gutman over wipe to completely clean my hard drive then my Operating System DVD and then my Application and Driver Recovery DVD what order would be best for installing my other programs from the list below: or does it even matter ???
Game Programs
Avast anti virus (can this one be installed without going on line ???)
COMODO Firewall w D+ & Sandbox (can this one be installed without going on line ???)
Microsoft Updates (can this one be installed without going on line ???)
Streets n Trips
Microsoft Works
Life Cam and other miscellaneous programs n apps
Thanks Tech but could you give an explanation as WHY you pick that order
Well, that’s pretty obvious I would think.
A/V is needed first so that you don’t get your new spankin’ clean machine infected with viruses as you download drivers / programs / updates.
Second, windows updates to patch holes so again, you don’t get your spankin’ clean machine infected / hacked.
Comodo firewall could be installed before or after Windows updates, it’s not “completely” urgent, but will further prevent attacks / hacks.
Then everything else… because everything else doesn’t quite matter what order you install them in, because they don’t do anything to protect your machine in anyway… They’re just programs.
As for this question
(can this one be installed without going on line )
Yes, but you have to download them from another machine, and you’d have to know what you need first (which is sort of hard to tell). Better off just getting your machine secured with A/V and firewall (if used), then just visiting the microsoft update site so it can scan the computer and download the updates that it finds are needed.
Oh, and DBAN and all that are great utilities, but they’re not necessary for just doing a re-install.
The reason that DBAN and stuff like that exist is to wipe a hard drive completely before giving a computer away or throwing it away, so that others won’t be able to recover any information from it.
If you’re just re-installing windows and are going to keep the computer, it’s sort of like hitting a nail with a sledgehammer (read: waste of time and effort).
