Please run an MS/Windows Update to make sure your machine is current with Critical updates. If any updates are needed, reboot your machine.

Run a free Secunia Software Inspector http://secunia.com/vulnerability_scanning/personal/ to see if any of your software is out of date, and if so patch anything that is needed? I know your Office will be. This site gives you the vendor’s direct download link making it easy to fix the problem, and many of us here scan our machines weekly because software changes so often.
- If any updates are needed, you can download them, but install them one at a time with a reboot in between.
- What version of Avast are you currently using? The current version of Avast (6.0.1125) has fixed some issues that users have had. Some of your other issues I will defer to Essexboy.
