There is no security software that detects everything.
Avast’s primarly job is to detect viruses.
To get/keep your system clean, you need multiple applications.
See the link in my signature and visit the malware removal section.
And if you think you have found something that Avast is not detecting, you can always send it to Alwil.
This way they can add detection for it to the VPS.
Dear All,
at this point the question is: do you know which is the best tool at the moment that is able to detect the spyware,ad-ware, etc. on the fly ?
I mean something like Microsoft Spyware ?
You already have such a tool. It is called AVAST.
And if you read the manuals of the application in the malware removal section, you will see that there are several that can run resident also.
Eddy,
AVAST, as you know, did not work correctly (I sent an email to the support too).
The strange thing is that the AD-WARE.NAFAOZ was discovered on the 15th of January 2005, but the AVAST database was not updated !
Do you know why ?
Before Alwil can add a detection to the vps, they need to have the complete code of the malware.
It may very well be that it is detected with the next vps update.
Alwil releases them every 2 weeks, unless there is a huge thread, than it will be released asap
www.webroot.com SpySweeper they redid their software, they cover everything even more then Spybot - Search & Destroy, with SpySweeper you get cover for.

it even take care of Trojan horses downloaders types it remove them totally.
i do a double check on Fridays: Lavasoft Ad-Aware SE Personal, HijackThis, Spybot - Search & Destroy
stay on all the times when going through the INTERNET sites: Panicware-Pop-Up Stopper Professional, webroot-SpySweeper.
avast! is an antivirus. If the adware was found on 15 january 2005 then its a very small chance that they will add it to VPS. Only anti-spyware companies have rapid response for such stuff, not antiviruses and vice versa for other non adware threats.
For such you need to use specialized tools.
