In the AEA console, VPS updates can be set to Auto / Ask / Manual. But program updates can only be set for Ask / Manual. Is there a way to force automatic program updates for clients?
The reason I ask, my users will ignore the upgrade notice - they don’t want to be inconvenienced.

In the current version is not possible.
You need to configure the program updates as “manual” and create a job/task to update all the machines in your net.
The option that program update can be “auto” is something that have been asked here: http://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=101270.0
I noticed that the client software has “Auto” for program updates as an option - just looks like the AEA console needs to update to take advantage of it.
This is something that I have not tested, but maybe it works.
In the ini setting add:

ProgramUpdate=Auto
