I have an Avast! for Education license and so I downloaded and installed AEA on a new Windows Server 2012 server.
The install went okay, but when I generate an installation package (every time, I’ve done it several times) or try to install from the AEA console, the installations fail on the client PCs.
With the generated install package I get the following error:
An error 1006 (000003EE) has occurred.
Last performed operation was:
extracting main exe
To troubleshoot I’ve done the following.
Downloaded the install files from the Avast website again, did a complete uninstall and reinstall of AEA, and generated a new install package, same error.
Downloaded the files, did an install on my IT workstation (Win 7 Pro, x64), same error when using a created package.
Downloaded the install files, installed on a fresh Window 7 x64 VM, same error message.
For some reason, whatever I do, everytime I try an AEA generated install package, they fail with the same error.
Oh. Well that’s interesting, after looking at the log file for a remote install from the console, it says that C:\Program Files\AVAST Software\Enterprise Administration\InstPkgs\setup.exe is missing.
Low and behold, I browsed to that path on the server, and the setup file is missing!
So I can’t install remotely, because the file is missing, and I’m guessing that’s why the generated package is not working, the exe is missing.
However, I’ve downloaded the setup file fresh each time, and every time I install (just tried again on two different machines) the file is missing.
Here’s the log from when I try to push the client out:
