After 10 plus years of use of AVAST, had to completely UNINSTALL! !

:frowning:
Well just a few days ago AVAST automatically installed the most recent update.

I restarted win 7 pro and at first everything seemed normal…but later I decided to play World of Warships, all good, then I noticed while trying to access a website from within the game it could not connect.

I alt tabbed out and tried Chrome, could not connect…

I then tried to open Avast from bottom right of screen and only the frame of the menu came up and was unresponsive.

After restarting Computer (had to hard reset as it was hung)…I tried repair, this did not work,

I then used the uninstall tool from avast
reinstalled and tried eliminating the component that ignores messages etc while in game…

This did not work…

I have sent an email to support but yet to get a reply.

I just wonder if I am the only one or are others having the same issue…

I finally had to remove and only hope that eventually a newer update will correct the issue…

Quote: “I then used the uninstall tool from avast

What component?? ???

I tried custom install and unchecked the item that is used to ignore messages while in full screen mode…

  • Do Not Disturb Mode

I sent support a message about my problem , still waiting for reply…

After most recent AVAST update, I discovered that if I play a game (world of warships in this case) when I try to access a website from within the game it will not work. Alt tabbing out of game and trying to use chrome does not work.
When I then tried to check AVAST via icon on bottom right of screen the gui came up but was unresponsive.
I alt tabbed back to game and tried to quit and it too became unresponsive.
I had to hard reset system.
I then avoided the game and just went on the internet through chrome.
I went to play a movie at Google play.
I went to full screen and watched movie. I watched nearly the whole movie.
I checked the AVAST screen (clicked on icon in bottom right) and discovered it unresponsive again.
I then restarted system Hard reset (I tried to log out and also just shutdown but both caused system to hang.
After restarting I then went to programs and features and right clicked avast to repair.
After repair I restarted.
Tested again by playing game and after it once again crashed (note it doesn’t always crash right away but eventually crashes).
I then restarted (hard reset again).
I then downloaded the AVAST removal tool, then ran it to remove AVAST (in safe mode).
I then installed AVAST premier …
Same result as above.
I found a site that held an older version (supposedly 4 months old) and tried to install and this didn’t work as well.
(it is possible it auto updated on me during install?).

I cannot conduct work nor entertainment(play) and so had to completely uninstall.

I have a sub for not only the anti virus but vpn etc…

I hope you find a solution soon.

Note I used a tool called WHO CRASHED and discovered that the system is locked up to the point a crash dump file was NOT created.

The rigg I am using has windows 7 pro, I am also running Malwarebytes and I could see that avast was aware as I was checking setting it mention that if I changed x to non passive it could cause issues . So I left settings alone just as it has always been and worked well.

Regarding Avast Support could take up to 5-7 days to reply, and posting new request would put user back at the end of the line as it is FIFO system. So wait a bit and you should hear from them soon.

okay thanks.

Hi Bart,

I just found your post and realized that you are having similar problems to me, see, "Newrelease problem).

Your setup is very similar to mine as I also have malwarebytes installed and run w7 x 64.

So perhaps there is a bug somewhere in this release?

Martin

Another Premier user w/ MalwareBytes installed (Win7 x64) affected by the recent update.

Unistall/clean/reinstall is NOT the answer.

2 issues I’ve encountered:

  • Gmail IMAP acc’ts fail… cert error (reported here, elsewhere).
    – Temp solution… disable mail shield.

  • Things slowly grind to a halt… can’t open new windows, shutdown hangs. No way to collect telemetry.
    – Temp solution… remove ‘Real site’ component.

Things have run without issue since making these 2 ‘adjustments’.

MalwareBytes team reports they have reached out to the Avast team. Hopefully, they can collectively sort this out.

I personally haven’t used Malwarebytes for some time.
To me it’s pretty much a duplication of what’s already covered in Avast.
I haven’t run the resident part of Malwarebytes since version 3.
Your computer your choice.

I too have given up on MBAM (from version 3), a bit of a resource hog, plus duplication and I have a supposed lifetime license

People keep reporting that, but it’s not been my experience. Aside from a rare, dodgy update, it has run quietly (minimal footprint) alongside whatever security suite I have run… Avast, for the last 2 years. This time, Avast has the dodgy update… stuff happens.

As Bob says, “Your computer your choice”.

I still have no problems with Mbam and Avast (latest versions of both) running side by side.
I have stopped using Mbam on XP and the Win 10 OS’s there plenty of resources so that I don’t notice a significant resource imprint as I go about the daily tasks of computing.

Regarding Avast & Malwarebytes, see: https://forums.malwarebytes.com/topic/200324-exclusions-for-avast-users/

I had similar problem in my Internet Explorer, not even google show up. Disabled the Behavoir shield (“Escudo de comportamiento”, I dont know how its in english) and worked again. Maybe was a casualily.

Hi,

I finally have my pc running again.

I tried disabling some parts of Avast but that only helped part way, the final solution is to go into safe mode and uninstall Avast completely.

So I,m just using Malwarebytes until Avast has a fix for this issue, then I will re-install.

Martin

Yep , did the same and to be honest , I didn’t realize how much of a performance hit I was accepting. I got so used to how it was running that I thought it was normal…

I would install if it worked even with a performance hit to gain more security ,but till then I guess Malwarebytes works fine.

Bump-- when will AVAST rollback or fix latest version?

Avast is alway working on reported issues and provides fixes through back end updates as well as version updates.

The conflict with MBAM has been fixed via an uUpdate.

Thanks for the update Asyn.
