After exiting bank mode Windows 10 freezes mostly

Bank mode works well but after using X to exit from it then Windows 10 needs to be rebooted before it can be used non-bank mode.

Please post your Diagnostic Information. You can get it by visiting this link: secure://settings/diagnosticInfo
For problems with Bank Mode, also attach szb.log which is located here: C:\ProgramData\AVAST Software\Avast\log

Hello Sandhill,
I have the same issue. Was this ever resolved? I’d like to know so I can fix mine.

Whilst this is a relatively old topic, over 120 days.

If you have a problem then first ensure that you have the latest Avast Secure Browser version.
If the problem still exists after that I suggest that you follow the instructions given by Asyn in the post above yours.

Thank you DavidR,

At the moment I cannot reproduce the issue so there is no point in uploading the files detailed in Asym’s post. All of my software is up to date and I have automatic update turned on. If it occurs again I will upload the relevant files and relevant data from the szb log file.

Thank you for your assistance.

You’re welcome.

Same issue here, but for more than a year already, so several version updates did not change anything.
Also my system is fully updated (for which I use Avast Software and Driver Updater as well).

Then do as suggested in Asyn’s post in this topic.

The secure://settings/diagnosticInfo link only brings me to the Google search page.
I tried to attached the szb.log, but the file size is too large (maximum individual upload size is 1024KB, mine is 2038KB). If you wish I can copy and paste part of the log, where there are irregularities. Just let me know.

It might be important to note that if I use the bank mode briefly, windows continue to work as normal. But if I use it for longer periods, or if I go back to the Standard Mode to open a PDF file and then back to the Bank Mode, guaranteed for Windows to freeze. The freezing starts gradually, firstly the taskbar does not react, and then the desktop freezes. The only way to get out of it is via the Task Manager by holding Ctrl, Alt and Delete at the same time and shutting down that way. Or … to switch off my laptop, which of course is not recommended.

Similar problem but windows freezes after using Bank Mode for around 30 secs. On returning to standard desktop, task bar flashes rapidly sometimes settling down and can then return to BM. But this process repeats sometimes getting message out of memory. Can enter task manager but then cpu escalates to 100%, memory rapidly climbs to max 13.9GB and only way out is to open task manager again to get access to power off. This is progressively getting worse. System is Win 10 fully up to date Edition Windows 10 Home Version 21H2
Installed on ‎16-‎Nov-‎21 OS build 19044.1741 Experience Windows Feature Experience Pack 120.2212.4180.0
Have accessed and attached Diagnostic info and latest two days szb log.
Really need to clear this up it has been going on too long. Scannow shows no corruption so this seems like an avast problem. Cheers, Dave

Dev-Info: Hey, we were solving this problem few times already but it always led us to the problem with outdated drivers on those specific machines. However we’re gonna try to take a look more in detail again and hopefully we’ll find something. Thank you for reporting!

Thanks Asyn, More info which may help. If I use Bank Mode soon after logging into Windows, this freeze inevitably happens. If I use standard mode for say 20 mins prior to using BM, there is usually no issue. So seems like something is interfering with win 10 boot up process which I assume is still happening for some time after desktop appears. My drivers are generally up to date oldest were 2021 versions. Only out of date are game drivers which I ignore. Hope this helps, Dave

You’re welcome.

Hi Asyn, “You’re welcome” doesn’t exactly answer the query I posted. This problem is now intolerable and I note previous replies suggest Avast traced this to drivers not being updated. During Bank mode, the display freezes and the only recourse is to return to Standard desktop. Here, the task bar oscillates/flashes rapidly and Task Manager shows CPU, C:, and RAM all at 100% Attached screenshota shows this. If I wait long enough, sometimes, fault clears as shown in second screenshotb. Can you please help ?
