I had to uninstall Avast Free because it kept deleting (actually sending to chest) a file that I use daily and which was not infected. After the uninstall, Windows will not boot anymore. It just goes into the startup recovery routine, is unable to find the problem, then shuts down.
How exactly did you uninstall avast ?
Any other security (related) software on the system ? (or was there)
Why didn’t you set a exclusion for that file ?
Did you send the file to avast so they could fix the (possible) false positive ?
S: I unstalled it the usual way, by using the Windows uninstall protocol. When I did I got the Avast uninstall protocol, including the sad face and the short survey at the end.

S: The report was one that is manually filled in. Didn’t have the time nor should that have anything to do with boot up issues.

Scroll down to “If you cannot Boot the computer” and follow the instructions.
[/quote] S: I followed the instructions to the letter. Presssed the Esc key and set the bios to boot from the CD I had created from the link you provided. I got as far as the XP start screen before hitting the Blue Screen of Death, twice.
I have Avast on another laptop. Now I don’t don’t whether I am more afraid to keep it or to try to uninstall it.
