Yesterday I restarted my PC, due to the latest Avast One update, but Avast One is no longer starting, or showing in the windows notification area, and AvastUI.exe has disappeared, meaning I can’t even run the program manually.
Anyone else had this? Any guidance on an alternative start-up method, or will I need to re-install the whole program?
I didn’t choose to keep the desktop shortcut, but the app shortcut in C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs just states that AvastUI.exe has been changed or moved - as it is no longer in “C:\Program Files\Avast Software\Avast”, or anywhere on my C Drive.
Only the below processes are running in Task Manager. As I say, Avast has just stopped opening/running, so yes Windows Defender has automatically taken over. I only realised that by checking to see if Avast had been updated correctly when looking for the icon in the notification area.
Have you tried disabling Windows Defender - as when another AV is installed it should be automatically disabled by Windows - so if you reinstall the Avast Antivirus program Windows ‘should’ disable Defender.
I don’t see an option to disable Windows Defender, even though Avast is still listed as an Anti-Virus option. I do have the options to “Open the App” or “Turn On” for Avast, neither of which do anything.
So, I tried to uninstall Avast, but that doesn’t work either as the file necessary for that has also gone!
I think I’ll just try re-downloading a fresh copy and installing, assuming it will just over-write the existing files where necessary.
Yes, the uninstall in itself wouldn’t work, but as the instructions in the link I gave mentioned, there is an option to Repair rather than uninstall (but you have to first select uninstall), did you not see that or try it ?
Yes, I followed the instructions but I don’t get to the option to choose Uninstall or Repair, as the file to start that process is no longer there, just as the AvastUI file is no longer there:
