Someone messaged me, and evidently I can’t reply directly back to them, and why I’m including this here. But the point and reason for their message was that I should start my own thread and not hi-jack another persons thread. If I could have replied to them I’d of simply said two things. And will see if one of those things changes now that I’ve started my/it’s own thread? The first, the person whose thread I hi-jacked, was done with his thread and asked someone to delete or close it. Also, I was also replying confirming their desire to NOT upgrade and simply decided to express and explain the issues I’m currently having as the reason I was confirming their hesitation against upgrading.

The second, I didn’t and haven’t really gotten and real help there. Will see if I get any here and now that I’ve started my own thread on my issues/problems with Avast IS 2014???

Anyhow, as the title says, after updating to Avast IS 2014, I have to… disable web shields just to get Firefox 25.0.1 to even open, as I’ll explain below and to navigate the web, webpages, to get webpages to open and or open properly. Webpages including this one.

I sent in a support request maybe 2 or 3 days ago and have yet to hear back. I should not have to disable something that’s there for my systems protection just to be able to properly navigate the web or to get websites/pages to load or load properly. Example: Lifted the lid on the laptop and woke the laptop up. Clicked the Mozilla Firefox (v 25.0.1) button in the taskbar and nothing happened. The second I disabled all shields (for 10 minutes), Mozilla Firefox (again, v 25.0.1) opened right up. Logged into my email, did took care of what I needed to. Sadly, it took longed then 10 minutes and once again I couldn’t navigate anywhere. UNTIL I ONCE AGAIN DISABLED ALL SHIELDS. WHY AM I HAVING THIS PROBLEM? And I’m having it on a desktop and this laptop. Have a 3rd computer, another desktop, running Avast IS 2014, but it’s Windows XP professional 74bit. But I’ve yet to use it, as it’s only used for a specific purpose so I don’t even know if it’s having the same damn problem/s or not. Truth be told, I don’t want to know. I mean, I can’t figure these two out, or get help. So, I’m not about to bring a third one onto the mix.

And what pisses me off more, I just renewed. Part of me wants to request a refund and go get something else. But I’ve been happy with Avast for the past few years. And if I can’t or don’t get help, I may as well. But how long do I wait? And the longer I wait, the less likely I’ll get a refund. And then if I do, what virus program do I get? Left McAfee for Avast because some schmuck put an idol timer in McAfee’s latest version at that time, and even though scans were scheduled, THEY’D NEVER START! So, i get fed up and found Avast. And again, I like it.

And another thing I’ve noticed is on my desktop, Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit Avast is controlling windows firewall and I can’t turn it on or off. Yet on my/this laptop, Windows 7 64bit Home Premium, Avast IS NOT controlling Windows Firewall and I can turn it on and off at will. And also with the desk top, the laptop doesn’t have or show the message, that Avast is controlling the firewall.

So, what do I do? Any suggestions? Anyone willing or able to help? How long do I wait for support to reply back?

P.S.
Because it took me longer then 10 minutes to type this / my thread, I had to disable all shields just to get the damn thread to post!!!

Perform a clean install of avast.
Could be something went wrong during the update.

  • Use THIS to uninstall.
  • Download the latest version from HERE
  • Install avast.

I did do a clean install. After doing or rather, trying repair first. Neither one helped.

did you run McAfee removal tool after uninstall?

removal tools McAfee nr. #22a http://singularlabs.com/uninstallers/security-software/

Same here. The latest update blocked my internet connection. With great difficulty I deleted Avast Internet Security. Even though I paid for the program, I won’t ever renew or use it again. I tried to restore to an earlier date, but Avast updated before I could complete the process. I turned off my router, restored to an even earlier date, and deleted Avast in safe mode.

It seems that each update of Avast Internet Security increased its complexity and the program had became annoying. I will go back to Bit Defender, even though I have some time to run on my paid subscription.

I surrender.
