After your upgrad can't receive An email address

It seems that after one of the Avast upgrades I can no longer receive an email address from my grandaughter in Okinawa.
Since I did not make any options changes i assume it is something in the newer version of avast .
I have been online with SBC and they cannot see what the problem is. I receive all other emails from many other address but not from mediate.net. in Okinawa, Japan.
I can send Emails which they receive but nothing comes thru from them to me, new emails or simply a reply to one of mine… Right now they are sending the emails to my daughter in Akron and she is forwarding them to me. Any ideas please?

avast does not block emails, just scan them.
If you disable the email scanning, will your email client (program) work?

By the way, which is your operational system, avast version and email program?
Do you use a firewall, which one?

Thanks for the reply. No , I don’t receive the spacific emails if I disable(turnoff) Avast.
Windows Xp with sp2 with all the latest updates.
Avast 4.7 …Home edition. I let it up date everytime Avast says one is avilable.
It just seemed odd tha after one of the Avast updates i stopped being able to receive this spacific Email

Here is what they are seeing from Okinawa when they send me an email. Or reply to one of my emails that they receive with no problem.

I appreciate any comments.

For your anti-spam protection, you would be advised to edit the email links in your post to xxxxxx @ oasis.mediatti.net and xxxxxxx @ sbcglobal.net, etc. so there are no email addresses that can be harvested by spam bots scanning the net for email addresses to add to spam lists.

thanks david. I think I got the all. I didn’t know there were such things.

There certainly are and once on these lists, they are sold to multiple spammers.

On to your original problem.

If by terminating the Internet Mail nothing is coming through, it may be that your ISP (SBC) uses a spam filter, check to see if they have mediatti.net blocked, or do you have an anti-spam application ?

Check this search result http://www.google.com/search?q=email+error+451 some seem related.

Possibly this, but it is a little technical.

People have been telling me they've sent me email that bounces with error messages like "451 Mailbox Temporarily Unavailable" or "555 x delivery attempts in x minutes - please fix your MTA." What's going on?

Skiffy says:

These messages indicate the sender is using a mail server that is misconfigured in how it handles normal SMTP control messages, in particular, the standard "451 Mailbox Temporarily Unavailable, try again later" message.

According to the RFCs (the "rules" of Internet communications), a mail server is not supposed to generate a bounce message when it receives a 451 response. It is supposed to try the message again 15-30 minutes later, and if the server is still busy, again at ever-increasing intervals for up to several days. This is to allow busy servers to avoid being overwhelmed by thousands of simultaneous connections and re-tries.

If a sending server just ignores a 451 message and tries to send the email anyway, or if it simply retries over and over within a short period of time, our server will hang up on the sender with a more permanent "555" message that indicates how often they tried and that their MTA (Message Transfer Agent, a.k.a. email server) is broken and needs to be fixed.

This incorrect behavior is identical to what spamware does (hammering away at a server regardless of the control messages). SFF Net will not accept mail from any mail source that does not handle 451 messages correctly.

You will need to contact the sender of the email and have them contact their email administrator to fix their server. It may help to pass on the information that their server must comply with Section 5.3.1.1 of RFC 1123 (http://www.faqs.org/rfcs/rfc1123.html).</blockquote>

How are you getting these headers that appear to originate from mediatti.net ?

Tue, 8 May 2007 06:52:05 +0900 (JST) Temporary error returned by SMTP partner. smtp;451 4.7.7 Excessive userid unknowns from 61.120.206.13
This IP address is mediatti.net and is basically saying that the userid is unknown presumably yours.

Do you have another email address you can test (preferably a non-sbc one), have them send to that, if it gets through it would tend to indicate the error is at sbc.

Have you forwarded the above information to sbc as they should be able to better interpret it than I ?

I also found this on the 4.7.7 part of the error and it also relates to SBC, http://forums.zfirm.com/showthread.php?t=2348, also http://www.digiportal.com/esupport/upload_zend/index.php?_a=knowledgebase&_j=questiondetails&_i=148, google search, http://www.google.com/search?q=email+error+4.7.7

All emails come thru except from mediatti.net.

Up untill abot 6 weeks to two months ago I received emails from there with no problem.

aLL the information I posted was sent by my grandaughter at mediatti.net to my daughter and she forwarded then to me.

I have spent about 1 hour+ with tech support at SBC and they insist the problem is with the sender. I do not have anything blocked or any program on my end that would stop an email from mediatti.net.

Pawgy

Well it certainly looks like blocking at SBC, but as per my first quote it could be a problem at mediatti.net has your daughter spoken to her ISP support about the problem. They should be able to test if their email servers can connect to SBC.

If you do as I suggested and get another non-sbc email address, and see if that gets through, if so that should add some weight that the problem could be at their end.

Other than this I don’t know what else to suggest.

David .
I really appreciate your advive and suggestions.

At least I am sure it is not Avast that is causing the problem.

I am trying to digest your previous post and have copied and pasted and saved the information.

I have been considering setting up a yahoo mail address and this gives me more incentive to do so.

Thanks again.

Regards
Pawgy

The Yahoo address is likely to be a webmail account (viewed using your browser) and not a POP3 account like the SBC. But if your daughter can send to that address it would show that she is at least able to send (which I don’t doubt) and lend weight to your case.

Either that or mediatti.net is blocking SBC not impossible and as I mentioned your daughter should request that mediatti.net at least check this out.
