Hi, well, I installed Windows 7 on a newly formatted computer, then proceeded to put on the programs, we all know, we need, like CCleaner etc. I then notified him that I was going to put on Avast Free Edition so he would have some kind of antivirus program to protect him. Sadly, it will not install, we have tried everything, even had a techie assist.
Before you offer any solutions, please realize, there were no previous programs of Avast or any other security program, and new install of Windows 7 on the 'puter, in fact it was as smooth as silk running, except for a small typing lag. So, can you help us with some kind of workaround. It keeps saying, must close program after clicking on the downloaded installer. Again, please no resolutions regarding anything but getting it to install. TBH, the TEchie said, he thinks that the downloaded installer is the culprit, haha, last phrase, thanks, RD
Hi, thanks for offering the help. I am not going to do the Farbar thing, as I have found out that these diagnostic proggies, make your computer run worse.
Here is what the window says, when I even try to install the full offline installer, 217 mb.
Avast Free Antivirus setup offline exe has stopped working. A problem caused the program to stop working properly. Please close the program.
This computer has no AV programs, brand new install of Windows 7, really lean and mean. Something is causing Avast to arrest its install immediately. Do you need a Microsoft program to accomplish this, or a Java or something else. I mean, inquiring minds want to know, we have spent all day on this, someone must know what is bringing about this hindering, thanks again, RD
Hi, thanks for offering the help. I am not going to do the Farbar thing, as I have found out that these diagnostic proggies, make your computer run worse.
How can it when the only thing it does is produce two logs ???
when you go to the doctor he will diagnose to see whats wrong and then find the correct medicine
you asked for help, if you dont want it …
I diagnostic tool that only generates a file/s, which is then analysed by a human (qualified malware removal specialist). At this point they will give a unique fix based on what they have found in the diagnostic reports.
Autonomous tools that supposedly analyse and then run what they think should be actioned - these are completely different.
Hi, it has something to do with SSE architecture, as almost no AV programs will install anymore. AVG gave the same runaround and the moderators made everybody jump through hoops for months from my research. Then one day, a month or so ago, one of the techies there, finally admitted in an email and to the online forum that AVG won’t work with older computers, without SSE2, I believe.
Anyway, the computer I am typing on is not the one I am asking assistance on, so when I have some time later, will try the Farbar, thingie. I record music, and the last time I did something like this, it took like 300 boots to get rid of it, as the computer remembers everything. I won a huge debate about this with our local computer repair facility, now, they are rethinking what they do, RD
Thansk for the help, finally, will try it tomorrow. Why does everyone balk when you ask for help in a certain way, and why do software engineers not leave well enough alone. I knew the computer I was working on was clean, and also Antimalwarebytes needed a hotfix, too. Please, just tell us before we spend hours and hours trying to these proggies to install, or run, whew, RD
