(Again) new to avast!: Some questions

Hi there!

After using avast for a long time I switched to Kaspersky and then to NOD32. Due to my licence of NOD32 is running out, I thought I can try out avast! again. Perhaps it has been developed further since I used it the last time

Here are some questions (regarding the Home-Version of avast!)

  • Does avast! detect “Hidden applications” like rootkits?
  • Does avast! scan NTFS alternate data-streams?
  • Does avast! have some sort of heuristics now (I know there is a heuristics module in the eMail-scanner)?
  • The newes av-comparatives-review gave avast! “advanced” but a very bad mark in the flexibility of the scanning-engine (detection of polymorphic viruses). It’s known that in every av-comparatives-test this important point was the culprit in avast! Do the programmers know of this “behaviour” with polymorphic viruses?
  • Does avast! have a self-defense-system like NOD32 which denies the deleting of important avast! processes from task-manager etc?

Greetings and grats to the best (and most complete) free antivirus-programm

Timo

I’ll try to answer your questions as far as my knowledge reaches…

No, not yet.

Yes, it does.

There are generic signature detection (not heuristic in the meaning you’re trying to say).

The antikill feature will be available on avast version 5.

Thanks a lot ^^
