OK what happened is I wanted to test a new CIS4 version yesterday, so instead of just uninstalling the firewall from AIS, I uninstallled all AIS and installed V5 “free”, so make sure no conflict happens. First reboot >>> a no go, no way to log in, went back to safe mode knowing in advance that CIS4 cannot be uninstalled in safe mode (services not running, protection somehow). Attempted a system restore >>> all was fine, I got the system back with Avast 5 “free” only. had no reason anymore to keep it so there, instead of uninstalling and reinstalling, I did a sys restore again to a time when AIS was installed >>> no luck, infinite loop when booting. Went back to safe mode to uninstall AIS, and I could boot again in normal mode >>> where I finally could reinstall AIS.
So I’m on full AIS again now. Main reason why I tested the latest CIS 4 is I’m a bit fed up with the time my system takes to reconnect to the network when resuming from sleep mode. Doesn’t happen with Avast “free”. Strange as it doesn’t happen either in AIS with Web Shield off ??? >>> as if it was somehow an interaction between the web shield and the firewall (AIS) generated the issue…just guessing…
I’ve thought that the System Restore was working with the self defense module off… :

the restore point I used was a time when AIS was installed, and defense module turned off (purposely), because I knew in advance that if CIS4 install failed, I wouldn’t be able to uninstall it in safe mode (as described in my first post here), and I would have to use sys restore.
