I got a one year license for AIS.
I uninstalled avast! 5 Free and ran the avast! 5 uninstall tool in safe mode.
After installing AIS it wouldn’t run and I had no internet, I clicked on “fix”, but nothing happened.
Uninstalled AIS and now I have internet. Ran the uninstall tool.
Installed avast! 5 Free, now I can’t register it, filled out the form in the ui, but it failed.
Installed MSE 2, runs fine, but I want to use AIS.

Probably if I install AIS in safe mode with networking it will work.
Maybe tomorrow.

This happened to me too when I was using AIS 5.0 on XP but I have no idea how I made it work.
Did you remember to remove zone alarm or some kind of program that could have caused conflicts?

I do not think Avast! can be installed in safe mode.
LOL, spoken to this forums resident ZA fan. ;D

Yes, I removed ZA first before trying to install AIS, as it has a firewall it would conflict with ZA.

When 5.0 beta first appeared many of us with XP had to install it in safe mode, it was the only way.

Gargamel360,
Avast! Forums’ resident ZA fan is no longer using ZA, at least for a year. ;D ;D ;D
Why did you do that? Didn’t it work on normal mode?

Tech,
Did you read all posts in this thread?
In the original beta testing of avast! 5 many (includes me) had to install avast! 5 in safe mode w/networking.
Today I also had to do it. I wouldn’t of used safe mode if normal installation worked.

Tech,
I think it was doktornotor that came up with the idea to install avast! 5 in safe mode w/networking.
It sure helped many people.
Maybe if Vlk would look into what is going on with a normal mode installation of AIS compared to a safe mode w/networking installation
he could fix the problem?
They should. avast should be installable in normal mode for sure.
No :-[
I can’t read all the thread again each time I open it…
Why didn’t it work? Can you post the setup log?

Where do I find the setup log?
Please, upload (attach) the avast log: C:\Program Files\Alwil Software\Avast5\Setup\setup.log
(or the shorter C:\Users\All Users\Alwil Software\Avast5\log\Setup.log).
If the file is too big for the forum, post the last 400-500 lines of it.

Interesting, I’m still finding my way round my new win7 netbook and I don’t have a users\all users folder C:\Users\All Users\Alwil Software\Avast5\log\Setup.log. I only have c:\users\MyUserName\ and no Alwil Software sub-folder.

You can copy and paste the last 400-500 lines of the file into a new notepad file and save that as rdmaloyjr_setup.txt and attach that to the next post and Tech should be able to view that.
