alerts from avast saying they blocked URL/Mal 7 so far today

Ok attached 2 copies, 1st time I had firefox opened so I closed FF and redid it.

Description: The server could not bind to the transport \Device\NetBT_Tcpip_{C06CBA97-90A7-4680-A144-3C3EA055707C} because another computer on the network has the same name. The server could not start.
This is a recurring problem and could be caused by having multiple devices trying to connect to the network, and two have the same name

Check your extensions. if you have any of the following:
Daily Motion Media Player
Media Downloading Tool
FaceBook Wallpaper
FacePaint

they are considered malicious and they hijack your browser. They would redirect google links or redirect links in general, inject lines of bbc or html coding into replies and forums so that everyone sees the virus and may get infected.

A couple big ones to watch out for is:
FindGala.com
Soundfrost.org
Google.com(malicious url disguised as google)
and some ad sites that are provided by double click, popunder, and others.

FindGala is a dangerous one, it will redirect all google links and search engine providers straight to find gala without your knowledge or want. It is known to allow multiple spywares, malewares, worms, and trojans into your system with you or your antivirus’s knowledge. It is very dangerous because not only is it considered adware, it is also considered spyware in itself. It takes all your passwords, usernames, credit card info, and other info and sends it to where-ever. I was only able to track a couple of ip’s it sent to, many just being proxies or lead to nowhere.

@ skyraze the redirects have gone, we are now trying to sort out connection problems

OK thanks for all your help Essexboy. Since this problem started I have been in contact with my broadband provider and they have increased me from 3.0 to 7.0 free, so hopefully my problem with losing internet will decease or decrease. Also since you mentioned the 2 devices with same name trying to access may be throwing it off I will look into renaming a device. Thanks for removing the redirect and looking into my internet problem, but there has been another issue that I know just realized happened about the same time of the redirect. My sound has been off, well i thought it was off. I tried to watch a video on youtube and realized I do have sound because I could hear the video, however it was like they were lipsinging, or like an old chinese movie (no disrespect to anyone) where the lips moves and the voice sounds comes later. My avast is set to run when I come on so I just noticed when the scan started I did hear the beep; however, I didn’t hear it say “Avast has been updated”, and I always did before. Also scan started and completed with no problem, I used to hear “Scan has been completed”, but this time nothing. Could whatever put the redirect on here or toolbar or something also have changed my sound setup? What do I need to do to avoid issues like these again? Should my firewall or something be changed? I am very careful about clicking ads and such, however my 2 sons use the computer also and I’m sure they click items on their facebook pages that they shouldn’t. Maybe I need to lock the admin and make them use their own, but I get lazy when they are trying to download stuff and need to do it from admin signin. Please advise and Thanks for all your help.

What is your soundcard ? Is there an option to use the soundcard settings in control panel… Mine is realtek

If there is nothing there could you look in device manager and see what type of soundcard it is

How cool, mines is Realtek also. I am able to access thru control panel. Please note that I have not made any changes, somehow it changed on its own.

OK could you ensure that the sound it set to on in there

attached is a picture of it, it is on, And I was incorrect before I can hear music (background sound) but not the voices talking in ads.

How is the internet now… 'Tis a weird thing that just music and no voices, not heard of that before

I thought it was strange also that I could hear music but not voices. So I went to our local news site and clicked an ad cause I knew I could trust it, that time i heard the voice but it was very very low. So I checked the sound and after raising it all the way up I could hear it better. I then checked the speakers properties, clicked the “enhancement tab” under that there is something called voice cancellation, there was no check mark in the box. But sound is OK on that site. But still can’t hear message saying “AVAST HAS BEEN UPDATED”, LOL.

Last nite I came home and was unable to connect to internet. After resetting router and turning off/on power I could finally get it back briefly but would eventually lose it again. This went on for about 1 hour so I decided to call the internet provider so they could try to look into it while the problem existed. duhhhhhhhhhhh, that’s when I found out I had no land line, no dial tone, and/or static or message saying line in use. So apparently the problem isn’t just associated with my internet, it my land line as well. By internet provider and telephone is part of same company so another technician is coming out, eventho the 1st time they couldn’t find any issues, I know something is wrong now with my land line. Its goes off and then comes back on, so might be a short. Thanks for all your help and I apologize for using up your valuable time. Unless a virus is capable of causing these type of issues? lol. Thanks again.

If there is a lot of static or errors on your phone line then that will mess up your net connection

Subject to no further problems

I will remove my tools now and give some recommendations, but, I would like you to run for 24 hours or so and come back if you have any problems

Now the best part of the day ----- Your log now appears clean

A good workman always cleans up after himself so…The following will implement some cleanup procedures as well as reset System Restore points:

Run OTL and hit the cleanup button. It will remove all the programmes we have used plus itself.

We will now confirm that your hidden files are set to that, as some of the tools I use will change that
[*]Click Start.
[*]Open My Computer.
[*]Select the Tools menu and click Folder Options.
[*]Select the View Tab.
[*]Under the Hidden files and folders heading select Do not show hidden files and folders.
[]Click Yes to confirm.
[
]Click OK.

Clear Restore Points

Go Start > All Programmes > Accessories > System tools
Right click Disc Cleanup and select run as administrator
Select More Options tab
Press Sytem Restore and Shadow Copies Cleanup button

Now that you are clean, to help protect your computer in the future I recommend that you get the following free programmes:

http://img233.imageshack.us/img233/7729/mbamicontw5.gif
Malwarebytes.

Update and run weekly to keep your system clean

Download and install FileHippo update checker and run it monthly it will show you which programmes on your system need updating and give a download link

If you use on-line banking then as an added layer of protection install Trusteer Rapport

It is critical to have both a firewall and anti virus to protect your system and to keep them updated. To keep your operating system up to date visit
[*]Microsoft Windows Update

To learn more about how to protect yourself while on the internet read our little guide How did I get infected in the first place ?Keep safe

Thank you again, was able to do all except CLEAR RESTORE POINTS. I do not have more option for my disk cleanup. Was able to do a disk cleanup but not for the system restore and shadow copies.

You need to right click disc cleanup and select run as administrator to show that option

Ok everything is completed did the cleanup today. Thanks again for your help. I understand you train on malware removal? Is this online training?

Essexboy will be in bed now, just after 1:10am in the UK and back later today.

He is an instructor at the geekstogo.com so yes it is on-line, but there is normally a waiting list and steps to get on training.

Yes I learnt here http://www.geekstogo.com/geeku/ and I also teach there now ;D
