all the latest avast doesn't catch W32.Stration

subj says it all.

I’ve got a virus by mail today and avast doesn’t recognize it

VPS 0640-2

If avast didn’t detect it what did ?
Then I assume that you have sent the sample to avast ?

If you are not getting a virus warning that you believe is a new, undetected virus then if you can zip and password protect (‘virus’, will do) the suspect file and send it to virus @ avast.com (no spaces), or send from the chest (after adding it to the User Files section of the chest).

Give a brief outline of the problem (possibly a link to this thread), the fact that you believe it to be a either a new, undetected virus and include the password in the body of the email. Some info on the avast version and VPS number (see about avast {right click avast icon}) will also help.

You could also check the offending/suspect file at: VirusTotal - Multi engine on-line virus scanner
Or Jotti - Multi engine on-line virus scanner if any other scanners here detect it.

calmav & norton were ok.
don’t know about the others

The reason I asked “If avast didn’t detect it what did ?” was if it was detected by another AV on your system that could be having an effect on avast (conflict).

calmav & norton were ok. don't know about the others
The blue text are links to the multi engine scanners.

Send the sample to avast for further analysis.

No. Avast is installed on my machine and I was checking on the others.

I sent a sample yesterday and two new today that are only detected by Kaspersky & NOD32. They should be added soon. Yesterday’s update included 2 new signatures (Warezov).

640-4 still detect nothing :frowning:

Just wonder what is the average time for avast team to react on new virus :frowning:

Please Alwil team, improve detection here 8)

Well, the latest VPS is 640-6 from 08.10.2006 , so the virus might have been already added

Agree ;D

0641-0 still nothing… :frowning: I’m serious guys. Norton or Drweb get updated the same day.

A week has passed, but avast still can’t catch this virus. It was ok when avast didn’t detect very old viruses, but for the new ones… Don’t you guys have an explanation?

Can you tell me when and how did you send the sample? (I mean, did you use the same address as you have here on the forum?)

I’ve just resent it to virus_at_avast.com from my address. Yes it’s the same as on forum.

I had this problem a few weeks ago. W32.Stration is the same as Warezov, except this latest Stration seems to contain additional files that are not detected properly. I sent a zip with all the files, but have not had a reply. In the meantime, I’m reminding my users to stop opening email attachments.

Original thread relating to the problem is here in the Virus section: http://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=23626.0

If you didn’t zip and password protect the sample attached to the email then it may have been deleted on route to the avast email server by a mail server anti-virus.

archive was zipped and password protected. 641-4 detects the virus, ugh… finally.

Hurray, better late then never

Yeah its detectin Warezov-LE, but its not curing it!

Not all infections are curable… so I won’t expect this for avast.
The most of them are only detectable. :-\
