All web browsing much slower after updating to Avast free 11.1.2241

I updated my Avast free when prompted to a few days ago to 11.1.2241 and since I’ve done so my web browsing has slowed down significantly, I’m also getting ‘freezes’ a few times a day where the avast indicator is spinning but the web page does not load for a minute or two

it doesn’t seem to be down to browser as I’m seeing the slow down issue in IE/Chrome and Firefox (all up to date), the freeze seems IE only so far, but that’s the most heavily used browser and it’s an intermittent issue

I’m running windows 7 on an intel I-3 processor with 3gb memory so while not the most up to date machine I don’t think I should be seeing issues like this

avast doesn’t seem to find any issues on scanning, and the issues only showed up after the recent upgrade

any thoughts/suggestions?
is this a know issue for older (non windows 10) OS that might get solved with a future update?

Nothing else installed,

I used the previous version of Avast free

  1. Download Avast Free Antivirus: https://files.avast.com/iavs9x/avast_free_antivirus_setup.exe
  2. Follow instructions: https://www.avast.com/uninstall-utility (Run this tool for all prior installed Avast versions…!!)
  3. Reinstall Avast with the downloaded installer from point 1.
  4. Reboot.

Thanks I gave this a try and kept having the same issues :cry:

I then tried switching off all the bits of the Avast Free one at a time to see if I could narrow down where the issue was and I seem to have found it

with the ‘home network security’ tool switched off (and the PC rebooted) the slowdown issues stopped and performance seems to be back to what I had before I updated to this (latest) version of Avast

hopefully is a minor bug that will disappear with the next update and I can switch the tool back on

anyway if anybody is hit with similar issues give this a try
