I want to lock down Internet Explorer at a business so that the user can’t browse, yet the avast! program can update normally. What address should I put in “Trusted Sites” for the updates? Thanks.
avast doesn’t use IE to get updates (only used for help files), ensure that your firewall allows access to avast.setup.
In the “Connection” tab, I set a proxy (they don’t use one), which blocks all internet access, but it also blocks the update. If I remove the fake proxy info…the software updates okay. I’m trying to find another way to block user internet access.
Why not block outbound connection by IE in your firewall.
You can check out the C:\Program Files\Alwil Software\Avast4\Setup\servers.def file which gives a listing of current servers used for updates (lots to spread server load) they usually begin with downloadxx.avast.com xx being a one or two digit number. So you could simply use avast.com as trusted.
