Hi all,
I’m using Avast Home 4.8.1335 on windows xp home sp3.
I’ve some keygen or crack files on my pc but avast block’em all when I try to use them. I already activated filter about directory when I keep those files, but it’s only to avoid that avast make a scan there. What should I do to let know to avast that those files are sure for me?
And you are surprised that avast alerts on cracks and keygens ?
Outside of any legal or moral issue of using a crack or keygen to avoid payment for legitimate software, these are high risk as they frequently come with unwanted guests, trojans and it is these that avast is detecting. Not just the fact that the file is a crack or keygen as avast hasn’t a clue what the file is other than it is a file it should scan.
no for offense but why use keygen ? Its got a lot trojan and backdoor most time so beware if you trust it !
If you shop for food at a rubbish bin, sooner or later you’ll get poisoned.
Keygens and cracks very frequently have malware bundled. There’s no need for them, with so many good freeware programs around.
Plus, of course, you’re doing the developer of the original program out of dinner.
You need to use the Exclusion lists:
For the Standard Shield provider (on-access scanning):
Left click the ‘a’ blue icon, click on the provider icon at left and then Customize.
Go to Advanced tab and click on Add button…
For the other providers (on-demand scanning such as the screen-saver or the Simple User Interface):
Right click the ‘a’ blue icon, click Program Settings.
Go to Exclusions tab and click on Add button…
You can use wildcards like * and ?.
But be careful, you should ‘exclude’ that many files that let your system in danger.
Remember, keygens could be really infected and you’re putting your computer in risk by your own.
Thank you very much. I know that they could be (often they are) dangerous, but those one I’ve in my pc are good.
I noticed also that when I open one of those files, an Avast windows ask me if I’m sure about that file and ask me details about it. Everytime I say “yes” but everytime it ask me.
I think that an option that lead me set file as sure should be usefull
At least, submit them to www.virustotal.com and post the results.
This was discussed before and, for security reasons, that won’t be a “ignore always” button as (some) users can not know what they’re doing…
i used to use crack and keygens all the time and some did have problems. not i use thepiratebay.com and use bit torrents instead and i dont have any problems. they seem to be alot safe and alot less work
It doesn’t matter where you get them from, the legal, moral issue is the same. As is the not knowing the source as a bit-torrent could be from anywhere so you never know what you are going to get until you try to run it.
Since this is the official Alwil software forum for supporting avast, there is no way we could condone the use of cracks and keygens as those who use them could well be using it to try to avoid paying for avast pro, denying Alwil software revenue.
