Alternative Way To Update Avast Program On Dialup?

Hello,

For numerous reasons, I am still using dialup and plan on staying on it. In the past, I have been able to download Avast Free (with great difficulty). However, on dialup I find most downloader programs don’t work and I often find I cannot complete the download when resuming. I was wondering if I can simply backup the setup folder and if necessary, just put my Windows XP home edition on an old Dell machine in safe mode and copy the contents of this folder to the installed one. While I am easily able to update the program through the internal updater, I still like to have the setup program in case of a system catastrophy. However, my fear is that if I attempted this kind of reinstall of Avast, it might be corrupted by the registry entries maybe not installing properly or not at all, and maybe compromise the integrity of my system. I would appreciate any thoughts and suggestions, maybe even a step-by-step. Thanks.

                                                        Warmly, Happy Holidays,
                                                                        Stu

There is no easy way to download the full installation file and there really is no hack to copy the setup folder as that is only a small part of avast (175MB of 320MB), there are also driver files in the windows system32 drivers folder. So there really is no war to transfer avast from one system to another.

If you have a local government office/library or a friend with fast broadband perhaps you can get them to download the full avast_free_antivirus_setup.exe file (87.1MB).
