oops, sorry my fault

Windows update not working, after I pressed the “Check for updates” button, I get a message window:
“Windows Update cannot currently check for updates, because the service is not running. You may need to restart your computer”

Could you check in services to see if it is running and set to auto

Also could you run an elevated prompt

Go Start > All Programs > Accessories
Right click Command Prompt and select Run as Administrator

In the black box type the following and press enter

net start wuauserv

Let me know if it succeeds or you get an error message

cmd:

" The service name is invalid.

A good workman always cleans up after himself so…The following will implement some cleanup procedures as well as reset System Restore points:

Run OTL
[*]Under the Custom Scans/Fixes box at the bottom, paste in the following

:Commands [resethosts] [emptytemp] [Reboot]

We will now confirm that your hidden files are set to that, as some of the tools I use will change that

[*]Click Start.
[*]Open My Computer.
[*]Select the Tools menu and click Folder Options.
[*]Select the View Tab.
[*]Under the Hidden files and folders heading select Do not show hidden files and folders.
[]Click Yes to confirm.
[
