Hi,
I used my Avast! rescue disc to boot-time scan my computer and it discovered 5 infections involving the Aluroot-B virus.
I deleted them and rebooted but the computer would no longer boot, so I restored it to the day before.
The computer seems fine now, so I was wondering if this was a false positive? (I have been reading both in this forum and others on the topic.)
Thanks.
Please attach your logs. (AdwCleaner, MBAM, OTL and aswMBR…!!)
Instructions: http://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=53253.0
Okay thanks. I do not wish to be impolite but which is likely to take less time- re-installing Windows 7 (all my files are safely backed up,) or following these instructions?
It depends, but as you’ve everything backed up, a reinstall would probably be faster.
Thanks.
You’re welcome.
Hi, I left the computer as it was, with the aluroot b infection, and waited until Windows 7 updated itself, then I ran the rescue disc boot time scan again. this time it picked up the following infections:
C:\Windows\winsxs\Backup\x86_microsoft_wi… Win32:Aluroot-B [Rtk]
C:\Windows\system32\csrsrv.dll…Win32:Aluroot-B [Rtk] …etc…
…plus a new infection:
c:\pagefile.sys Win32:small-HUF [Trj]
When I deleted them all with the Rescue disc scan prog, this time Windows started normally. Thanks.
i would recomend you follow asyn’s suggestion in reply #1 and let a removal expert check the logs
