When I opent the avast!5 Free User Interface, I see the following:

The first image states that my system is not fully protected. The second indicates that my system is fully protected.

Am I’m confused or, is avast! 5 Free ???

Bob where does the first image comes from ??? so I can check mind.

Edit: well I place my mouse over the Avast ‘A’ orange ball saying “avast! Antivirus: Your system is secured!” and the second image is the same as yours Bob.

@ Bob,
Is this shortly after boot ?
Some report the avast icon having the ! exclamation mark over it for a short time. If you hover the mouse over the icon then it would show what you say, but by the time you open the UI everything is running.

Did you maybe disable some of the shields…??

No David.
The system has been on for hours. and settings are the default installation settings.

Weird, what attracted your attention to it, was it the exclamation mark over the icon I mentioned ?

when you got that message by hovering over the tray icon, are avast services running? I guess yes. Is Action Center reporting anything off? I guess no. So that’s a minor bug, info not properly updated, and your system is secure, and you know it ::slight_smile: Would have been “wiser” to describe it that way, just a UI bug…nothing to do with actual security.

What if Bob does a avast repair would the solved the problem ???

Bug?? Maybe… Is it still there after a reboot?

When all else fails, try a reboot:
