and/or ATF cleaner http://majorgeeks.com/ATF_Cleaner_d4949.html

ive run it but nothing happens it always says Connection Was Reset i really cant get on to messenger.yahoo.com please help me

Exactly what avast free version are you using, the latest is 6.0.1289 (your signature doesn’t say) ?
When did this start to happen ?

What errors are you getting when logging in to yahoo messenger ?

it says that about troubleshooting then after that it says that check your settings at internet options=>connections… i dont know i just deleted ym because i want to reinstall it but i cant get to yahoo messenger site because the connection reset screen always pops out

i cant access any link to yahoo(except for www.yahoo.com),rest of all sites are opening ,but all the time i tried to open yahoo messenger site it shows “The Connection Was Reset” sujjest me what to do?

i just updated my avast a while ago coz it was outdated. but still cant connect to anylinks from yahoo except www.yahoo.com and search.yahoo.com

just about yesterday

if you right click avast tray icon and disable webshield, does it work then ?

it doesnt work ??? ???

If having disabled the web shield and it doesn’t work, there is something else in the mix.

OK, whilst I don’t have a Yahoo Messenger account (don’t use any messenger service), I can enter the uk.messenger.yahoo.com site, no problem. So I don’t know which URL you would use in the Philippines (and I can try to access it) ?

I’m also able to access my.yahoo.com page for mat BT Yahoo home page.

Or is it the login location and function you can’t access ?

as what i have said i cant connect to any links on yahoo except for yahoo.com,mail.yahoo.com,travel.yahoo.com and search.yahoo.com and my.yahoo.com
and travel.yahoo.com finance.yahoo.com health.yahoo.com
other links/ cant connec.

i think its ph.messenger.yahoo.com

I occasionally get that in firefox, even on the avast forums and using the Try Again button works for me. Have you tried that button ?

I also have no problem connecting to ph.philippines.yahoo.com, image1.

I see from your image you are able to access Yahoo finance and health, but are having a problem with autos.yahoo.com (with that massive redirect URL from Yahoo.com. So I’m really unsure of what is going on with your system.

If it were malware it would normally be the whole yahoo.com domain being blocked rather than Yahoo messenger.

yes ive tried that button but still doesnt work ??? ???

I’m at a loss as you have tried disabling the web shield and even with the web shield, I can access all of those areas.

If you have 6.0.1289 (and you still haven’t confirmed that [you should include that in your signature]), then you can try the checking the avastUI, Real-Time Shields, Web Shield, Expert Settings, ‘Scan traffic from well-known browser processes only.’ Though I’m not to hopefully given you have tried disabling the web shield.

okay ive check ‘Scan traffic from well-known browser processes only’ what shall i do next??

See if it works, though I’m not too confident as I believe this is outside of aast.

still the same :frowning: :frowning: i really dont know whats happening

I’m not sure what else to suggest as anything else is still related to browsing and the web shield and having tried stopping the web shield for a while made no difference.

Try using this link http://98.139.200.98 that is the IP address for Yahoo Messenger and see if you can use the sign in link ?

If that doesn’t work, you could try Stopping the Script Shield for 10 minutes and then try to connect to messenger ?

still doesnt work :frowning: :frowning:

My suggestion to use the link should have gotten around any hosts file blocking of the messenger.yahoo.com sub-domain. This is a common malware trick (though not great) to block sites, but that is normally to stop you accessing security sites. So I think it unlikely that it would be malware as I wouldn’t have thought it would target messenger.yahoo.com, but be more widespread.

Sorry I’m at a loss as to what else to suggest as all of this appears to be outside of avast.

I couldn’t even find any support links in Yahoo.com, so all I can suggest is try some google searches and see if this is a problem others are having.

i have googled and i think this link has the same problem with mine take a look

thats exactly what will happen when i try to log in with ym. unfortunately i just uninstalled ym so that i can reinstall it but i cant connect to yahoo messenger site, i think there blocking users from philippines or something
