I installed avast! mobile on my rooted HTC Desire running Android 2.2 and I’ve been playing around with the Anti-Theft settings.
During the install, I created a fake application name (Lets call in ‘Game1’) and this fake app has been downloaded and installed.
In avast! when ‘Enable Anti-Theft’ is true, the ‘Game1’ icon is hidden but avast can still be launched (I understand this to be correct). However, when launching avast, Anti-Theft is one of the sub-menu options - I can’t understand why because a thief just needs to be launch avast (if they figured my PIN) and can then access the anti-theft menu and disable the features
I THOUGHT the purpose of the fake application was to make it impossible to access the anti-theft features UNLESS the thief happened to know which app was the fake AND they knew the PIN.
So, I don’t know whether I’ve screwed up the installation, whether I’ve found a bug or whether I’ve misunderstood the functionality…
(I can access the Anti-theft features as thru ‘Game1’ as I would expect so the installation isn’t completely screwed. I’ve also re-booted the phone a couple of times, just to ensure any new settings are applied)
well, if they figure out your PIN, they can simply call it and access Anti-Theft directly. Access through AMS is just to make your life easier (and also to set it up at later time if you skipped the installation during initial setup).
