Ambulance796

from what i’ve been reading, ambulance796 is an early 90’s virus with many variants.

11-14-05, between 7:00-8:00 am:

after i restarted my windows xp with the updated avast antivirus programs in 3 of my 4 home computers connected through a LAN through a wireless router with firewall, i ran avast and it detected ambulance796 as a malware and virus/worm.

it pretty much infected many critical windows xp processes in my 3 computers. i tried cleaning most of them but there are a few which couldn’t be cleaned so i was forced to delete them.

when i tried rebooting the computers windows xp would just load and reboot again and again. so rather than just trying to repair the windows xp using the installer cds, i decided to reformat and reinstall windows and programs on my 3 computers for the next 10 hours.

i have no idea how did my computers acquired it and may be it’s a new variant of ambulance796 which somehow avast failed to detect while i was updating avast antivirus program via a wireless broadband connection.

i was really surprised to know that such an old virus, well for it’s name at least, would spread very fast and destroy windows xp that easily eventhough i had updated microsoft antipyware, adaware se, spybot s&d, spyware blaster, yahoo antispyware, avast antivirus and router firewall installed and i ran them everyday.

i just post this so you guys will know about what happened. if this is a new variant of ambulance796…i guess we all should be careful.

thanks and have a nice day!
