An attempt was made to load a program with an ... error message ...

Apologies here as this isn’t really a new topic - Ginz posted the same thing back in April, 2007, but when I went to add my info, the forum help essentially told me to start a “New Topic” as no activity on this thread has been posted for over 20 days, soooo …

When I try to start Avast AV I get an odd error message that says

“An attempt was made to load a program with an
Program cannot set properly in main Storage”

That’s exactly what it says.

Avast version 4.7.1001 (Build: May2007) home edition
Win98se

I know from previous answers to poster Ginz (and from the Avast! web page) supposedly this is irrelevant to 4.7 releases, but, nonetheless, I willing to bet others have experienced it as well. I will try the suggested “repair” approach and see what happens, but this annoying event still seems to happen … with 4.7.xxx releases.

Update:

Repair approach via Control Panel did NO good. In fact, the situation may have worsen as I got the following message:

"The process cannot access the file because
‘avast splash screem’ cannot load config "

Will try an uninstall and reinstall.

Indeed this could solve the problem…

Hey

I am having the exact same issue with the same setup…

Avast 4.7 (May 2007) Whatever the latest version is…
Using WIN 98SE…

Perhaps Avast screwed something up with their latest upgrade(most likely OS before Windows 2000?)…will try uninstall and installing

4.7.1001

I don’t think so…
Are you updating from an older version or installing avast from the scratch?
