An attempt was made to load a program with an incorrect format (db malformed)

Just noticed when when clicking on the “Firewall logs” link in (Avast Premier 2014), I get the error “An attempt was made to load a program with an incorrect format”.

After some poking around I notice logging.log in C:\ProgramData\AVAST Software\Avast\log is being spammed with

Unfortunately searching isn’t helpful as everything I’ve found relating to that error is from an old version of avast where the solutions posted don’t apply anymore. Anyone seen this happen in the current version of Avast ? The older version of the software it seem deleting the avast4.db file was the solution.

Lastly, I understand that things can break, but what’s annoying about this is that avast software home page still states “Everything is good” with the big green checkbox.

You’re telling me something breaks with the software’s database and it doesn’t notify the user ? And still shows “Everything is good” when obviously it’s not ? If I didn’t happen to click on firewall logs I would have no idea something broke. Well now at least I know that that homepage message is complete BS.

Just to update anyone who might find this thread later on, restarting the PC stopped both the error message as well as the log files from being filled.
The software no longer had those two log files locked, so I could delete them as well.

Don’t know if anything else is broken with the app, everything seems fine now, I don’t have much experience with this app to be able to diagnose if anything else is broken or not.
The devs really need to implement better user notification if something is broken. A little icon on the home screen or something or the sort.
