I have done nothing different to my comp- though I DID try to restore to an earlier date in trying to get this GONE. But it has done nothing to fix it.
I am running windows vista home premium. Thanks!
do you use avast! home or pro?
did you already enter a license key?
you can get a license key there (if you don’t have one yet):

if you already have one try to reenter it or try to get a new one…!

EDIT:
Here’s the guide how to enter a license key from the Avast!-install-manual:
Inserting the license key
Once you obtain the license key (sent via email to the address used during the
purchase/registration) you have to insert it into the program. This will allow
updates, and stop any pop-up warnings.
To insert your new registration code, please watch this video, or follow these
simple instructions:
Video: http://www.avast.com/files/tutorials/insert_key.htm
Instructions:
1. Right-click on the avast! blue a-ball icon in the system tray (beside the clock at
the bottom right side of the screen) and then select “About avast!..” from the menu.
2. In the window which appears, click on the “License Key” button.
3. Enter the license key into the box. (Copying and pasting is the most accurate
method, however it can be typed normally as long as it is typed exactly as
written in the email, and not confusing the 0 and O).
4. Click on the “OK” button
This will allow you to get avast! antivirus updates for the duration of the license
you purchased. avast! Home Edition users must re-register again after one year
to continue getting the updates.
The first steps are now completed and you have a running version of avast!,
please see the program help file for further instructions on the usage of avast!
antivirus products.
Please take a look here: http://www.avast.com/eng/faq-invalid-license-number.html
- Check your system date and time.
- The Registration key is valid for 14 months. Has this period expired? Register again (for free).
- Use copy & paste method to apply the key (take care to not copy the ‘last’ blank space at the end of the paragraph: copy only the key).
Thanks so much! I have had it on two computers over several years and have never had this happen- however, now that I think about it- one day a couple weeks ago, my comp was shut down (during the night- I assume after a scheduled update) and I had to reenter the dates and EVERYTHING on it. Not sure what happened to cause that but maybe that caused this to. My dates were NOT up as far as the 14 months as one was sent to me on 11-08-07 and the other was on 03-21-08.
Thanks so much!!!
You’re welcome. Feel free to come back any time you need help or just to change experiences 8)
