"An Error Occured During the Updating: Network Unreachable" Not Resolved

Hi

I’ve tried restarting the computer and turning Avast off and on, it won’t update. It gave me this log, can anyone tell me how to fix this?

Performing vpsmac update (repository: http://download.ff.avast.com/mac/vpsmac, filedir: /Library/Application Support/Avast/files/defs/12070501/../../Setup/filedir, workdir: /tmp, instdir: /Library/Application Support/Avast/files/defs/12070501/..) Failed: progmac update postponed, vpsmac isn't up to date

[Edit] Added screenshot of error.

Set your proxy settings (into avast update settings) to none instead of automatic and test.

I don’t see anything called “proxy settings” in preferences, where do I go for that? I don’t see any settings for Avast Update.

Settings > Updates at the bottom… Proxy.

I don’t know what version you’re using but there is literally no such option on mine.

Same problem here. Avast won’t update and there is no option to disable proxy settings on my version of Avast on Mac. Any ideas?

Can someone please help us? I really have no idea what to do. Should I uninstall and reinstall?

I found this thread which seemed to have a similar issue:
http://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=97067.0

So I did that command ps -Awwl and got the attached .txt output. I also tried the second part, but it said that 86 wasn’t in the sudo file and that the “incident would be reported”, whatever that means.

Okay this is that second line from that thread I tried:

sudo rm -rf ''/Library/Application Support/Avast/files/Setup/filedir/vpsmac.locked'

But it just gave me some weird error that “the incident will be recorded”. Rebooting did not resolve the problem.

So, I just uninstalled completely, re-downloaded, rebooted, then reinstalled. It seems to be working now, but I’d still like to know what is going on with this (and also if I should be worried if the above code could have broken something).

Thank you

I’m still having issues with this. Any help? Am I the only Avast Mac user that can’t update the software?

Paste the update log here. In the case that the lock-related line is still here, you didn’t apparently remove the lock.
In all other cases, the log will explain a little bit more what’s your network problem.

pc

Hi PC, sorry I just saw your reply. Here’s the update log. Let me know if you have any ideas. Thanks

Any help with this? Am I the only one having issues? Thanks

I have exactly the same problem. Is there a fix or will I have to uninstall etc.
Current: 12061400 Latest: 12081501
Failed: filedir unavailable or locked by another vpsmac update
Performing progmac update (repository: http://download.ff.avast.com/mac/progmac, filedir: /Library/Application Support/Avast/files/Setup/filedir, workdir: /tmp, instdir: /Library/Application Support/Avast/files/defs/12061400/…)

Using the command line posed here didn’t work.

I uninstalled and reinstalled avast which seems to have fixed the issue.

Hallo,
this is a flaw of the pre-previous version, which might under some circumstances leave a lock over the repository.

As was written earlier, you can either:

  • remove the lock manually (/Library/Application Support/Avast/files/Setup/filedir/vpsmac.lock or progmac.lock)
  • uninstall your current version and install the latest one back
  • uninstall your current version, install that version back, and do update (blocked update was a quite special case there anyway)

pc

I had the same problem on my macbook - 10.6.8 latest avast etc…
I then tried updating via a different proxy server… bingo.
seems to be some sort of issue with the UK servers ?
I will wait to see if in the future it updates normally or if I always have to use another server…

Hallo,
delete manually those lockdirectories - all newer versions do this automatically upon reboot, when this situation is detected.
It’s located in /Library/Application Support/Avast/files/Setup/filedir , and has name such as vpsmac.locked or progmac.locked.
Just delete them.

pc

Problem still persists even with the very latest version 7.0.37682
I have 2 Macbook’s here, one a dual core (mine) & a single core (Dad’s) … Dad’s updates without problems…
I can try manual updates all day long with the same results… Firewall turned off etc…

The folder “Avast” can’t be opened because you don’t have permission to see its contents.

And I am the systems admin :frowning:
