an.tacoda.net

This persistant spyware or hijacker keeps finding its way back to my computer, usually within a day after purging it with AdAware or Spybot. Avast does not detect it, that I can see.

It looks like a hijacker to me. Once it directed every browsing command to its own an.tacoda.net site for several second (probably downloading my hard drive) before finally letting me go to my intended destination.

Which anti-spyware or antivirus program will permanantly block this persistent, malicious pest?

Some more information would likely help make that decision, like the file name and location of the detected file ?

What is your OS ? - is it fully up to date ?
What browser do you use?
If something keeps getting on to your system after previously being removed, you need to close any vulnerabilities that it may be exploiting, change your browsing habits, if you continue to visit the same sites you may be more vulnerably.

Try another browser firefox, opera or any non IE based one that doesn’t allow activeX or BHOs.

an.tacoda.net is an ad server from this Google search …

Have you tried deleting your Temporary Internet files?

Do you have Ad-Aware and have you run it with updated files?

You can also block such sites in IE if that is what you use for a browser.

Here’s a site with more info on how to do such things …

You probably have that "hijacker" on your computer !? Best
to go to the forums of your antiSPYWARE provider for help
in getting rid of it. If you know of none, I recommend
 www.landzdown.com .
P.S. There is no antivirus or antispyware program that will
prevent a hijacker. That what "tightening" up your
 Internet Options>Security>Internet>Custom Settings
AND a firewall are supposed to do .

If you have Firefox, go to Tools>options>cookies>exceptions. Add an.tacoda.net >click block. an.tacoda.net will be blocked from Firefox. Also, block tacoda.net.

It’s basically the same for IE …

Tools > Internet Options > Privicy tab > Sites button > type in an.tacoda.net > Block button. Same for adding tacoda.net, too.

Also, on the Privicy tab, you can click on Advanced button to select how you handle cookies. I accept first party but block all third party cookies.

Thanks for the suggestions. I use Firefox. I’ve listed an.tacoda.net on my blocked address list and updated my cookies to accept from the originating site only.

SpywareBlaster will block many known tracking cookies in IE and Firefox.

I think this cookie is smarter than most. You cannot block an.tacoda.net. No matter how many attyempts it never appears on the blocked list. (you can block tacoda.net but not an.tacoda.net.

Hi revecom,

Yes, they think they are smart Omniture trackers. But there is an easy way to solve it in both IE and Fx:

How to block third party cookies in Internet Explorer:
Click start/control panel/double click Internet Options/click privacy tab/click advanced/check override automatic cookie handling/uncheck always allow session cookies/select block third-party cookies/click OK
Third-party cookies track your use of the Internet for advertising purposes. That is why they are considered adware/spyware.

In Firefox click on tools/click options/choose cookie tab/check allow sites to set cookies/check for the originating site only/in keep cookies window choose ask me every time (this will allow you to decide whether to accept first party cookies or not on the site you are viewing. Firefox will remember what you chose when you next visit the same site.)
Click OK

Another way is to block the IP’s involved with a hosts file:
