how come 90% Android devices don’t have Android Market installed? Never heard such thing nor saw a plenty of devices where Market couldn’t be installed.
I am from China and I can say 100% of android mobile phones in China do NOT have android market.
I am very sure about this number, 100%.
But this problem is not only in China. if you do a google search, you will find lots of people have this problem all over the world.
I just post some links you can take a look:
Thanks for providing me that link and your email with the apk file link.
I will consider installing avast through other third-party market later if I can not see .apk download from avast website in a half year.
Currently, I am using AVG which is downloaded directly from their official website. maybe they don’t provide .apk file anymore, but I got it when it released at the first day.
I really don’t dare to install anything from a third-party market or website. All I trust is google android market (which I don’t have) and software’s official website.
And yes, I can install other markets on my phone. there is even a build-in one from my mobile phone provider.
In China, since the lack of android market, there are more than 20 “android markets” which can be downloaded and installed directly from their website. But I don’t dare to use any of them.
The reason why I want to install a security program is because I want it to protect my system. I don’t want to take the risk to install a modified version of a security program.
I only use OFFICIAL website. Because of my “bad” habit, I never meet any virus in my life so far.
We use Markets only because they are usually tightly tied up to your device providing you the features of automatic application updating and so on. If you install the application as an .apk, you won’t even get notifications about new application version etc. I’m not sure we will ever put a direct link on our website since we think it’s better for us and for most of the users to “communicate” through some Market. But this may, of course, change in the future.
I don´t think that the situation is so bad in China and you can off course use Play or Market on non-rooted phone (even you allowed non-market source once) - http://www.gizchina.com/2012/03/06/how-install-android-market-apk-files-android-tablet/. I do believe, that internet traffic could be a problem, but please do not blame the vendors not to having public APK sourced.
Hi… I’m new to Android but have used Avast on desktop and laptop PCs for a long time. Like sgon00, I’m annoyed that Avast only distribute Android software through Android Market / Google Play. I did try downloading from Google Play, but found that I needed to register, and to register for a Gmail account. This is something that I don’t want to do because I don’t trust Google and avoid all contact with them and their applications.
My suspicion is that Avast deals only with Google because they support each other (including for non portable equipment)… what might be called “mutual back scratching”, and Avast don’t want to upset this relationship.
I would urge Avast to reconsider and provide a safe and reliable source of Avast for Android APK files on their secure website, maybe in a location that isn’t initially obvious… and that you need to search for. I recall that Mozilla have done this (and that their APKs can be downloaded from their beta area).
Exactly. Just a note - you will have to check and handle for Mobile Security updates by yourself, but that’s a price you will have to pay I suppose if you can’t/don’t want to download from Google Play.
