Annoying note

Hello! My girlfriend has a problem with her laptop - quite often this note regarding the local area connection is shown for no reason (when network cable is already pluged in) and then she has to close it. It happens really often and it stays there too. Is there any way to disable that note? Thank you!

Isn’t it the connection dropping and resurrecting?
That message should only appear if the connection is going off and on…

Bellzemos try this goto Window XP control panel and look for “Network Connections” right click on the current connection she is using, and click on properties and look for “Show icon in notification area when connected” untick that box and only leave the tick box mark for “Notify me when this connection has limited or no connectivity”

That should solve your problem which mean when she not connected online the icon well pop up, and when she is connected online the icon will not pop up. If that what your after ???

Thank you SpeedyPC, that was it.

Your welcome

Interesting … I get that popup (or more accurately, its near-twin) when I connect to my ISP (PPPoE), which is normal, but I’ve never seen it in regard to my network card. Admittedly my computer is a stand-alone, the only one on its “network”, wonder if that makes a difference?

I do get a warning about “network cable disconnected” from that tooltray icon when I shut down my router-modem, but that too is normal. I wish MS would re-word that to be more specific and descriptive, it’s a little confusing when you first encounter it (typically when first upgrading from dialup to DSL). They’ve done so well with improving other error messages … remember the old “bad command” one?

No.

I never power down my router-modem and it is protected by my APC battery backup unit.
It takes too long to initialize after the intermiitent power blips I have here.

I have to power down my router-modem as well because of the intermittent power problems, and my ISP loss of connectivity too many times during the day. I can’t wait for competition to come to my area!

Normally I shut my router down only overnight, or when I’m doing a defrag (so I can then shut down my firewall and anything else that’s not immediately necessary, like avast’s self-protection and shields). Plus the router does tend to run quite hot sometimes, to the point where my ISP warned me not to stack it with any other component(s).

My router-modem has a built in firewall so I see no reason to shut it down and it takes ages to power up and re-synchronise its self.
