Annoying upgrade popups

Its annoying to get constant upgrade popups with the only resort is turn on silent gaming mode. Why doesn’t avast make them go away? I am perfectly fine with the free version thanks. One of the malware scanners detected this activity as suspicious as well, since I did not authorize it. ::slight_smile:

Yes many folks find these popups annoying however, in my personal experience I’ve used Free versions of software programs over the years and they ALL use this strategy to promote Paid versions.

You could simply close the occasional pupup. There are side effects to turning on silent gaming mode.
You could miss a notification that needs to be paid attention to.

I realize that avast has to make money and some will choose to upgrade based on these popups. But for those not wishing to upgrade, the option of disabling these popups should be there. It may be an advertising tactics but does get annoying. And I agree that the silent-gaming mode although it may turn these off, you will miss necessary features. I hope eventually that a middle ground is reached with long time users such as myself.

Thank you for an outstanding program.

I suggest you read this :http://blog.kaspersky.com/multiple-antivirus-programs-bad-idea/ If another anti-malware application reports it as suspicious, it is a false positive. Report it to the vendor so they can solve it.

I did report it to Hitman Pro, see what happens. No scans showed up from that program about Avast upgrades, so good to go.

Thanks for the advice.

I already bought Avast and have had it for many years and these pop-ups and spam ads are unneeded. So, there isn’t a way to turn this crap off? Edit: I guess there is a place under settings, general, to uncheck pop-ups.

I guess you’ve already found the answer. In the paid versions, you can turn off the popups. In the free version, click on the x to close the popup.
