Another aswrvrt.sys Thread

I had to reformat (three times) because of this problem, and now I’m too paranoid to install any antivirus system. What can I do to stop this problem occurring while I still have a fully functioning OS? Do I get an earlier version of Avast or something? Should I just try another antivirus? What the heck is causing this to happen? Before I formatted the very first time (replaced some parts in my computer) the Avast I had ran perfectly. Now it breaks my computer after one reboot.

I’ve had more problems with Avast in one night than I’ve had viruses and such in the last 5 years.

I did that thing with the boot USB and the FRST program, but I get the feeling those text files are custom made (I grabbed one that was linked in an earlier thread because I didn’t want to wait potentially a whole day for a solution), as FRST ran the fix thing but completely failed at stopping aswrvrt.sys from preventing a proper boot.

Please let there be a solution, I’m now DOUBLE paranoid (at having no antivirus and having any antivirus)!

(Couldn’t find an edit button, sorry)

Oh lovely. Now it’s classpnp.sys stopping me from starting! What the heck is going on?!

Edit: A system restore point managed to bring me back to the fresh install. I have a horrible feeling that both Avast and AMD Catalyst aren’t behaving on this system, as first it was an Avast file stopping me, then classpnp.sys after I tried to install my video card’s drivers.

Edit 2: Victory! The classpnp.sys problem was defeated by simply unticking an option in the AMD Catalyst install, something about AHCI drivers. I still don’t want to risk putting an antivirus system in though, til I can get an answer to the original problem.

There are many possible reasons as to why this happens. A second hard drive, drivers changing BIOS option to IDE vice SATA and yes even Avast with its low level drivers. However, removal of Avast will cure the problem and allow the system to boot wheres the others are more problematical. I have never been able to find a definitive answer to this

Greetings, glorious Essexboy! I’ve seen you in all those other threads. First off, I only have one permanent hard drive, and I couldn’t figure out the SATA/IDE thing in my BIOS. I’ve been fiddling around and installing some “essential” stuff now that my system’s relatively stable and I have a lock on the major problem. As someone in your godlike position, what do you recommend? Avast is the only antivirus I can really trust, but obviously I can’t use it if it wants to jerk me around.

Oh, I should mention that I finally found my new motherboard’s disc and installed the drivers and stuff on there. Any idea if that would have helped?

Do you have a drive imaging programme ? I have one that I always use prior to playing silly buggers with my system

It is free and will boot and restore from a USB although I have the image on an external drive but a second partition would be just as good

As you have a new motherboard that may have been part of the problem, using outdated or unsuitable chipset drivers

I actually just found a further free on just for today http://www.giveawayoftheday.com/backup-and-recovery-14-compact/

Uh, thanks for that, but I already backed all my stuff up before putting the new mobo+CPU+RAM in. I’m running a almost completely fresh system (I’ve already started to load it back up with my crap!), as I formatted the drive before proceeding with the Win7 Ultimate 64bit install.

I have run Avast on a 64bit win 7 with no problems. Currently running windows 8.1.1 and again sweet as a nut. However, I do not have any other security type programmes running or even installed which can sometimes cause a low level conflict. Mind you still virus free since Avast 4.0

As this is a fresh system then as long as there is nothing untoward with it Avast should perform. But computers are like teenagers totally unpredictable

Well to be honest, I’m really not sure I want to risk it at the moment. Not only do I have to get everything setup exactly how I want it (Bloody Firefox changing themes, why do people insist on fixing what isn’t broke?!) But it’s also 1am here, and I’ve been upgrading my computer for at least 7 hours now. I’m going to bed and dealing with Avast’s shenanigans in the morning.

Hey! I took offense to that! Lol,

Seriously though, Is it possibly a hardware issue with the HDD? Like a failing one?

Probably not at this stage as there is insufficient data to pin it on any one thing

Well I just installed Avast again, and rebooted 5 times in a row. No problems yet, but I’m not quite convinced everything is hunky dory. As was mentioned earlier, computers are unpredictable. When do threads get closed around here?

Threads do not close they just die away into oblivion
