another aswRvrt.sys won't boot thread

as requested separate thread started. Same issue as several others seem to be having - won’t boot, hangs on aswRvrt.sys when trying safe mode. I don’t recall making any system changes prior to problems, but it’s been a few days so not sure. I booted with the Reatogo cd and ran the FRST to get text file. it’s a fujitsu laptop running XP. Much thanks for any help. I’d really rather not have to format and start fre

First we will try a system restore and see if that works… What happened prior to non booting

Download the attached fixlist.txt to the same location as FRST
Run FRST and press fix.
Once done try a normal boot

Thank you, Thank you, Thank you. System is up and running, and seems to be booting just fine (normal & safe mode). Without your insight and help, I think that I was going to have to wipe and start over. Best regards.

My pleasure

Essexboy - I too am having trouble booting my notebook with the system hanging in Safe Mode when it tries to load aswrvrt.sys.
Tried booting from USB drive after running Rufus, but system hangs on the System Recovery Options screen when “repair your computer” is selected. During standard boot, system won’t load windows, it tries to go into “startup repair” mode but hangs with default windows wallpaper and mouse pointer only on screen. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

System: Sony Vaio VPCEB running Windows 7 Pro

Are you using OTLPE on the USB stick, and is that failing to load ?

I used rufus_v1.3.2 with the iso: en_windows_7_ultimate_with_sp1_x64_dvd_u_677332 on a usb stick. I selected repair your computer and it popped up the System Recovery Options box, but would not let me select either option. Fyi, there was no operating system listed in the first option. The pointer just spun, indefinitely. I also tried using OTLPE which I found on this forum. When I used OTLPE it prompted me to burn a cd, which I did. Upon booting with the CD I got a BSOD: Tech info: STOP: 0x0000007B (0xF78DA528, 0xc0000034, 0x00000000, 0x00000000)

That stop error indicates a Hard drive problem either with the MFT or physically

Can you access the safe mode menu ?
If so select command prompt
Type in the following command :

chkdsk c: /r

If you are unable to access the command prompt then go to the BIOS
Ensure that the hard drive is set to SATA rather than IDE

I can see the safe mode menu, but when I select safe mode with command prompt the system hangs at aswrvrt.sys.

In the Bios there is no setting for SATA or IDE. The drive shows up in the Bios as 500GB and it seems to be spinning normally.

Alas then there is nothing I can do I am afraid, sorry

Thanks for your time.

Well I had a little bit of success. I was able to boot the system from the USB flash drive and run FRST64. I had to remove the HDD first, then boot the system with the USB, then reinsert the HDD while the system was running. I was able to get a command prompt and saw that the files are still there. Did a chkdsk /f, but it found no bad sectors. Tried to reboot normally but to no avail. I have attached the FRST.txt file. Hope this provides some clues. Thanks again.

The registry hive is missing… Use Chkdsk /r
