Hell all!
I’m unable to update my Avast home edition 4.7 Rev 0625.7, for the past 4 days, and i’m getting the following (in french), message:
autre erreur HTTP (404) en essayant 70.84.145.250:80//iasvax4x/vpm-62506.vpu
Apologize if I’m re-asking a question that has been already asked 100 times, but i don’t understand what’s going on! Any suggestions?
Note that i’m in Africa on a living base, and downolads are not that easy…
Thanks for your reply and excellent Avast
This seems to be an update trouble. Basically, check:
If the servers.def file is corrupt or 0KB (C:\Program Files\Alwil Software\Avast4\Setup\servers.def).
You can try and download the servers.def file, http://files.avast.com/iavs4x/servers.def and replace the one in the avast setup folder. This seems to correct most problems nowadays…
If your subscription allows the update right now (i.e., if it is not expired).
If your firewall settings and allow avast.setup to connect.
If you’re not sure, just turn off your firewall (to be sure the update failure is not due to it).
Maybe you should ‘remove’ avast.setup entry, try to update, receiving a new alert from the firewall, allowing it and checking it to remember.
Check your proxy settings into avast!:
Left click the avast icon > Settings
Update (Basic) > Details > Proxy
Make sure your browser is not set to “Work Offline” (this option is generally in the File menu).
If it doesn’t help, try switching the proxy settings from “Auto-detect” to “No proxy” (I’m assuming you’re not connecting to the Internet via proxy).
Good evening Tech, and thks for your prompt reply.
I tried exactly what you have suggested, but unfortunately there is no change, whatever the setttings are. I’m still receiving the same error message, of which adress number varies:
Another HTTP error (404) when trying 67.18.242.146:80//iavs4x/vspm-62506.vpu
??? I Don’t know what to do !
For your info, I’m running a Dell Inspiron 6400, 1Go ram, Windows XP SP2, Mozilla Firefox + Thunderbird, and Office XP. When in france i’m using the French ADSL provider “Free”, when in Africa, I’m connecting through the local Ethernet network, which is relayed by a satellite link.
Up to last Wednesday everything worked OK either in Europe or Africa. Since Wednesday it seems impossible to update Avast.
Right click the ‘a’ blue icon.
Start avast antivirus.
Right click the skin and choose Log Viewer.
At the left bottom, click ‘Setup’.
Select the lines and choose File > Export…
Past the lines here.
Or, if you want, go to \setup folder, open setup.log in Notepad, copy the last lines and post…
These lines are strange:
ERROR:HttpGetWinsock, WinsockTcpConnect() returned 0x00002AF9
ERROR:HttpGetWinsock, WinsockTcpConnect() returned 0x00002AF9
Are you in a network with a proxy? Is there any network administrator near to you that you can ask?
Are other applications allowed to connect, for instance, a browser?
Did you follow the steps (all of them) I’ve posted before?
Seems that there is a problem with the servers.def file, can you delete it and try to update?
If it does not work, can you download a new one and save into the setup subdirectory of the avast installation folder?
I confirm that I followed exactly your initial recommandations. Apparently ther is no proxy, (as far as I can know through various tools).
Unfortunately the network administrator is unreachable here, and anyway should not cooperate with my company…
I don’t understand clearly what you mean by “another browser”. I’m only using Firefox and Thunderbird.
Remember that up to recent days, everything was working OK, and I did not change anything.
The only problem I have is the updating of Avast.
OK I will try to replace again the “server.def” file, as I did 2 days ago. Should I follow the same procedure you already suggested ?
Thanks for your constant assistance
Darjee
I tryed to dowload your file, but at the same time the update process started and suceeded.
So I did not use this file.
For your information I’want to answer to your last questions:
Yes I tryed to use i. Explorer, no result
No I don’t have any other firewall than the one of Avast
Everything seems to be OK now. hope this will definitely close this topic, even if I still don’t know what happened.
