Im running windows Home Vista on an Acer and this error was popping after installation. “failed to start becuse of a compatibility issue”. I came to the forums and tried the uninstall tool, the Microsoft C++, and the start on Safe Mode for another suggestion. The error kept always coming back. Now I can’t even exit safe mode.
If i figure out how to make the computer start normally or not just stall in trying to start in safemode. Is there any other way to install Avast 5 on it? I bought this for 3 computers and this one is the only one giving me problems.
Forget it… i can’t get my computer to resume normal startup. it just stalls on windows logo, sigh… it was working fine this morning with the expired avast. ah well…
Uninstall avast from Control Panel (if possible). If, for any reason, you can’t run it, try booting in Safe Mode and doing it from there. Anyway, boot after that.
Run the avast! Uninstall Utility saved on 1. If, for any reason, you can’t run it, try booting in Safe Mode and doing it from there. Anyway, boot after you’ve run it.
Install avast! using the setup saved on 2. Boot.
Register your free copy or add the license key for Pro.
Check and post the results. If, for any reason, you did not solve, try doing the step 3 in Safe Mode anyway.
I have an Acer with Vista and I am having problems too. You might want to peek at my thread “Almost fixed!” for more info. I have no idea concerning getting it out of “safe mode”. I do know Vista sucks. I have done everything but trash my laptop. And that’s tempting.
For what it’s worth. Check out “5.1.864 System Restore Disaster…Again” thread. They are working on it as we speak. Should have a “fix” by the end of the week. Till then keep using 5.0.677 and keep .677 virus definitions up to date. 5.0.677 will still keep your system safe till they find the elusive “fix”.
