Another false positive

Hello,

A lot of my users reported that avast detected my software as a virus. After a little investigation, I discovered that it was a problem with my updater and the self-extracting archives that I used to keep my users up to date.

Here is a link to check this false detection: 1.0.5.6.exe

And here is the report from Virus Total:

Esafe, WebWasher and Avast are well known for their famous packers detections… Please could you fix it up as soon as possible ? It’s really harmful for my reliability.

Send the sample to virus@avast.com zipped and password protected with the password in email body and false positive in the subject.

Or you can send it from there (select the file, right click, email to Alwil Software). No need to zip and PW protect when the sample is sent from chest. A copy of the file/s will remain in the original location, so any further action you take can remove that.

If it is indeed a false positive, add it to the exclusions lists:
Standard Shield, Customize, Advanced, Add and
Program Settings, Exclusions.
Restore it to its original location, periodically check it (scan it in the chest), there should still be a copy in the chest even though you restored it to the original location. When it is no longer detected then you can also remove it from the Standard Shield and Program Settings, exclusions.

avast! is known “for its famous packer detection”? You must be kidding, right?

Sorry I’m just a bit… angry. Cuz I don’t use Avast but I have to answer to my users why there is a detection.

But hum… Look at the comment made by jotti

avast! is known to be the one resisting packer detection the most.

Just say it’s an avast false positive. Hope the programmers correct it soon. Nothing more.
Welcome to avast forums.

If any of your friends use avast, you can temporarily add the file to the Exclusion lists.

sorry for not understanding what you mean by this but could you explain what the difference is between packer detections and the like?

I’ll ask the same question… I’ve though the problem is because I’m not used to that English phrase… but as I can see, other users are curious about it too.
