Avast surely seems to have its’ share>>GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR. Doing a FULL SCAN this morning, Avast said that it detected a HIGH threat, a wksab.exe. Yet when I Google that wksab.exe appears to be a LEGIT file within Microsoft Works. WASSUP, with you Avast??? Also was recommended to run the Boot Time, but ran Malwarebytes instead that ran successfully not detecting anything, although I do have that one file quarantined now, and Microsoft works DOES in fact open up!!!

Double-click Avast!'s round orange icon in the Windows notification area to open the main window. Click “Maintenance” in the left pane and select “Virus Chest.” The Virus Chest then displays a list of its files.
2
Right-click the file you want to retrieve. Select “Restore” to restore the file to its original location. Right-click the file and select “Properties” to view detailed information on the file and to view the location where it will restore.

Try the exclusions in the file system shield, not recommended to exclude files from real time scanning though but it’s your choice when you sure about a false positive. Also do an additional scan on the executable at virustotals…

Hello,
it should be fixed in last VPS update.

Sorry, but this shouldn’t happen in the FIRST PLACE, either in the FREE or PAID versions of anti virus software!!! Those false positives have harmed too many machines, making them UNBOOTABLE. And to the PC illiterates that can be a catastrophe. Makes one think about going elsewhere since Avast appears to have had quite a few as of late.
Every antivirus software be it free or paid has false positive issues. Comodo has the highest false positive rates. As you can see by the chart in AV Comparatives Avast has a much lower false positive rate then several other programs. Microsoft Works is an extremely old and out dated program. It is no longer support by Microsoft therefore leaving you prone to vulnerabilities. If you need a free Word program then download LibreOffice Free. Microsoft ditched Works about 8 years ago or so. So if they do not use it no longer should you. What else do you use in Works that you may need? I bet I can find free and up to date software for anything that Works can do. Thanks.

Certainly a false positive on Microsoft Works will NOT make your pc unbootable. As in matter of fact 2 years ago or so Symantec had a HUGE false positive which did just that. No one could use there pc’s at all. Had to go into Safe Mode which sometimes did not work. I have never seen Avast have a false positive which can prevent a pc from not booting. Simply adding it to the global exclusions will fix your issue permanently.

Not totally accurate. One of the participants in a discussion computer grp. I go to daily, had that exact thing happen to her with Avast, a very experienced helpful person when it comes to PC issues. She was able to use Safe Mode, doing whatever needed to be done, I think going back to another RESTORE point, if I recall correctly.
