Another Mail Problem

Dear Avast Support,

Here’s another Mail problem.

I use Mailwasher, before getting my mails with Outlook.

Before the update to 4.5 everything worked ok, now mailwasher throws an error if there are one or more messages in the mailbox. If the Mailbox is empty, Mailwasher does not bother.

To try to solve the issue, I terminated the Internet Mail Provider of AVAST and Mailwasher worked fine again until I restart the Internet Mail Provider.

I do not use ZoneAlarm or any other Firewall (read in another topic that this could cause the problem). I am on a router where only outgoing initiation is allowed and no changes have been made to the configuration of the PC or Router or programs for over a month now. The only thing that changed is AVAST.

Thanks for solving this issue.

Best Regards
Frank

sorry, forgot to include the errormessage… here it is…

Can you change the port number which MailWasher is ‘seeing’ for the messages? I use Spamihilator at 120 and avast! at 110… Maybe it works.

Hi Technical,

If someone can do this this could be a quick workaround, but it still is an issue for the support team to deal with.
I got my own workaround.
As outlook is using the outlook-exchange avast provider I can safely turn off the Internet Mail provider of Avast, because I am onlychecking mails for spam with Mailwasher, no Virus can get through this client.

But I have Friends that got the update and their Mailwasher didn’t work after that also…
So this is an issue for support.

Thanks for your response.

Best Regards,
Frank

See also thread Avast and Pegasus Mail.

I gave OS information about my system there.

If I disable avant mailscanner everything works fine after reinitalizing it it hangs up again larger mail downloads. I experiment with the avast.ini in the data folder seems this is the key. There are some changes within which sometimes lead to peer error when changing to 127.0.01 I think a solution would be to have that ini and especially the settings under mailscanner before the update to 4.5 so can you publish a old setting table of this ini (perhaps of version 4.1 or 4.4?

Thanks in advance

Configure the email account as avast! does not exists 8)
New email detection is automatic and do not require user interaction. Anyway, spam killer applications need manually change email account settings  But, as far I know, MailWasher does not change them as it listens at another port.

This is by design.
In 4.1, it was like: mail client > avast > spam killer > mail server
In 4.5, it’s like: mail client > spam killer > avast > mail server

I think the 127.0.0.1 trick should be used in conjunction with AutoDetect=0 in avast4.ini file. Otherwise, it won’t work.

I use MailWasher Pro with, OE6, avast and outpost firewall and no problems.

MailWasher has always opperated independantly from my email client and avast with the 4.1 version, so none of the MailWasher account settings were changed.

Since the upgrade to 4.5 and the transparent interface with pop3 (port 110), my account details have remained the same as before with no problem connecting. Now avast monitors my MailWasher connection as well.

Have your mail washer account details changed? If you installed avast 4.1 before MailWasher, it is possible that MailWasher imported the changed account settings from your email programs accounts. If that is the case you may have to reset/import them into MailWasher again.

Hi to all,
I’ll be checking those things you mentioned, tomorrow.

It’s a little late around here and work is waiting tomorrow
Thanks again for all you replies. I’ll be posting results into this topic as soon as I have some.

Bye,
Frank

I do not use ZoneAlarm or any other Firewall
I strongly suggest you start using one. It is a lot safer.
