How can my computer change my default settings without my permission. Firefox is my default browser but when I clicked on my Gmail Notifier icon
it tried to open in Opera, later on I wanted to check my Xffinty account which is my Isp and it opened in Internet Explorer. Also when I clicked on the Avast Forum it opened in IE. I changed my default settings back to FF but just wondering how it can change by itself? ???
I scanned for malware, nothing showed up and ran Avast quick scan but didn’t find any threats.
Just added…I haven’t received any Windows Updates since Jan. 9. I have automatic updates turned on so am wondering If this is normal. I’ve been checking for updates everyday but it only shows Optional Updates.
Sorry to disagree but, I’ve never seen a change in the default browser due to a regular Microsoft update.
Opera updates however will make Opera the default browser unless you uncheck that option during the update.
BTW with ‘special’ updates I meant, that (only MS knows) when a particular update is included (e.g. for Internet Explorer) they push Internet Explorer on top of all browsers, you have installed.
There is another thing, I’m wondering about: most of the OS updates (sent by MS) you can see in the right part of the taskbar (the yellow shield) and you can click on and choose to install or not. Others you won’t see at all. Only if you decide to stop your machine you’ll see, that there were updates by MS.
